Funny thing is, on the uber conservative side, there are those who scream that the Liturgy is too "Papist" and that it was taken from Vatican II and from the Greek Orthodox.

Among the Reformed, there are those who insist on psalmody, the singing of psalms and nothing else. And there are a few denominations who forbid the use of any instruments at all.

Can you be so certain that the psalmodists are wrong? Perhaps the only singing approved by God is the singing of psalms in Hebrew. After all, if we want museum singing, that would be a logical point to start.

It is difficult to justify these exclusionary practices when one grasps the entirety of teachings in scripture, both O.T. and N.T., upon which those churches base their order of worship.

Well, singing in Hebrew would be a stumbling block, which Scripture says specifically should not be something that is done with worship.

However, while I am a Psalm-singer now, it is highly likely I won't be all my life. I will miss it since except for the Catholic or Orthodox Churches, it is either all or nothing when it comes to Psalm-singing (with the exception of some Orthodox Presbyterian Churches or ARP that do both). But, the vast majority of Reformed Churches ignore the Psalms completely.

At least let's be balanced and sing different types of praise to God, not just hymns.

I miss my hymns in the RPC, and I frankly am not convinced of Psalmody's Biblical warrant. I see the arguments both for and against it pretty compelling, so I waffle back and forth a lot.

Whatever we do in worship, it needs to be done prayerfully and after much consideration.
