We already determined that individuals are able to to interpret scripture and that other believers (the Church) will help keep them straight when they're off base.
We agree that individuals may interpret anything they read and sometimes they seek advice of others.
Beyond that, the scripture that I cited teaches that private interpretation is dangerous and will lead to heresy and apostasy (2 Peter 1-2). The community of believers is not the Church, -- there is no historical or scriptural basis for that claim. The Church is something visibly lead by Peter (Matthew 16:18) or his successors, bishops, and priests, who become consecrated or ordained through apostolic succession (2 Peter 1:14-15). That is the Church that Christ founded and is heading (Ephesians 5:23), the pillar and bulwark of the Truth (1 Timothy 3:15), against which the gates of Hell will not prevail (Matthew 16:18).
