Moldova.org had some specifics.

Christmas Fast has started
Following the old stile the Orthodox Christians of the Republic of Moldova Monday began the Christmas Fast that lasts for 40 days and ends on the Christmas Day celebrated by most Moldovan Christians on January 7.

The Christmas Fast is the second in size among the four fasts observed by the Orthodox people. The biggest fast is the Holy and Great Fast on the eve of the Lent feasts. During the Christmas Fast we must abstain from eating meat, but, unlike the Great Fast it is allowed to eat fish, oil and wine on Saturdays and Sundays.

While fasting people must avoid conflict situations or contradictory discussions. The fast of the body without a spiritual fast means nothing for the salvation of the soul. On the contrary, it may become spiritually harmful if a person abstaining from food is filled with a sense of superiority. The true fast is bound up with prayers, penance, eradication of evils, forgiveness of offences, abstaining from passions and vices, matrimonial duties and entertainment. This is the essence of fasting, biblical teaching says. // Reporter.MD
