We’ve Had Dessert - Charles W. Slaton, Jr. on Biblical Malnutrition & Today’s Episcopal Church

Filed under: General — Brad Drell @ 8:22 pm

Since Gene Robinson’s consecration, I have read much, Mel White’s Stranger at the Gate, Francis McNutt’s healing homosexuality, Reinventing Anglicanism, a host of Anglican blogs, pieces, pamphlets, and some Kierkegaard. I’ve written much. But, this 41 page booklet

available on the internet, just flat blew me away. I felt like I did after listening to the CD’s of the Plano conference. It is written by an Episcopal layman who loves His Lord and His Church. It is from this deep love that he calls like a prophet - “For those Christians struggling in the Episcopal Church, and for those Episcopalians who are not being taught what it means to be a Christian.”

I can only repeat what he says in the introduction as to my recommendation of this link:

“I ask only that you read this short booklet. It is an honest effort to present truth as contained in the Bible. Accepting such a thing will not make you a fanatic, nor will it rob you of your compassion. The acceptance of biblical truth can only end our wandering - and bring us each face to face with the one, true, Living God.”

If that wasn’t enough, here is a listing of the chapters:

Grace-O-Holics
Brain, meet Bible
Fence Riding Injuries

Yeah. Go read it. It is that good.

What is really bad is that, as avid an Anglican news junkie as I am (I subscribe to Apostasy, read the CaNNet blogs, VirtueOnline, Every Voice Network, Mark Harris’ Blog, Thinking Anglcans, the HOBD Listserv, StandFirm, and CaNNet - just about everything from both sides of the fence), this thing has been out since May and I hadn’t heard of it until tonight. It even has Dean Zahl’s endorsement. Now, I don’t want my readers to think I’m asleep at the wheel or something, but, damn, I honestly don’t think I’m the only one that missed this. I’m going to print as many copies as I can and distribute it to every Episcopalian I run into. No kidding.

Update: Kendall posted this on Sunday, June 19, at 4:30 in the afternoon. I have no idea how I missed this, other than I was driving back from Louisiana State Pentitentiary that night, and it must have gotten lost in the shuffle. But there were only two comments, which is extremely puzzling.

This was fantastic writing. Thanks for posting it! I'm going to pass it along to some conservative Anglican priests that I know.

You're welcome. Reading it ate up the time budgeted for searching out Anglican material this morning, but I'm glad I did.
