I found this very cheering, even though it was about funerals.Maybe, it is the hope that cheers us. The hope that those who attend the funeral will see the hopelessness of life without God and not end up the same way as their loved one.
Why else would a pastor officiate except he sees an opportunity for the living?

The positive thing is that when the chips are down, Christianity has something to offer that secularism does not.
Also, some tend to presume that those who are not members of an organized Christian religion are not Christians. Anymore the way some denominations are going the opposite might be true.
