Binky goes yard:
Without going into the rights and wrongs on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian situation, suffice it to say that the cartoonish approach taken by ECUSA towards ethical bossiness and disinvesting in Israel now unanimously approved by the Anglican Consultative Council just wont do.
Yet again, it appears that Anglicans did NOT do the needed homework in the Anglican Peace and Justice Network Report, and the fallout may well be poisonously anti-semitic. Hurray for us.
Sadly, whether its the Spong situation, the Righter Show-Trial, various recent General Conventions, The Robinson Affair, The EpiscoPagan Controversy, and the whole Windsor Report mini-series, Liberal ECUSA and much of militant leftward Anglicanism generally has consistently shown itself the servant of fads, agendae, oversimplification, lazy sophistry, posturing, one-sidedness, sloppy thinking, and misrepresenting facts and evidence to suit pre-judgements on various topics and issues of the day. Weve seen and detailed that over 7+ years of covering Anglican matters.
In abusing Anglican responsibility to witness to the truth and love of the Kingdom of God revealed in Jesus Christ, were also guilty by implication any time one of our wing-nutty efforts has a world of unintended consequences. This is the real world, people: you know, the really real one, not necessarily reflected accurately on the front page of the New York Times, NPR or CBC, or the various wings of the BBC. Making any old thing up, or acting on half the story, or assuming our pundits and talking heads are infallibly authoritative just wont do. Lives will be affected; people may live or die or suffer because of what we say here on CaNN and other websites, or in an Anglican Meeting, or in the wider world of politics.
We have an accountability before God, before our race, before history, before our consciences, and before the living Way, Truth, and Life. Is it not high time to grow up, and stop play-acting, to get serious about the issues confronting us in Western Christianity and the Western world, and to take on our responsibilities, come what may?
Well put.
