Dear bigsigh,

For the Catholic Church, neither "Tradition" or "tradition" always mean "most original practice."

Neither "Tradition" nor "tradition" should be equated with "antiquarianism."

In fact, I believe there is a name given to that particular error, although it escapes me right now.

I've pinged a couple of folks more capable than I am of elucidating these points.

I can't remember the name either, but it is error.

It's called archeologism and it was condemned.

The TLM was the culmination of additions and development over centuries with its core; the Canon, as said by St. Peter and the consecration (including mysterium Fidei)as Our Lord himself stated it according to the Tradition of the Church.
