The American Dollar Bill

Posted on 06/05/2005 6:11:53 PM PDT by RedwineisJesus

I'm sure that many of you have now read "Angels & Demons". It answered for me (a Canadian) a question I'd always had about the American dollar bill ... "what in hell is that pyramid with the big eyeball on it on the back of the bill ???"

It's a Masonic symbol.

But the questions STILL remain:

1/Why do Americans have a Masonic symbol on their currency? Do most Americans even have a clue what the Masons stand for?

2/ How do Americans reconcile themselves with the two contradictory messages on the back of the bill: Novus Ordo Seclorum (New Secular Order) and In God We Trust?

Anyone with answers out there?

"""For one thing, "Novus Ordo Seclorum" doesn't mean "New Secular Order". It means "A New Order of the Ages"."""

The word "seclorum" means "ages"?

I didn't know that!

But then, I'm not a Latin scholar like you, obviously, are.

Patrick Henry and John Adams quotes are not in the Declaration or Constitution--hence this could be propaganda. I do not know if either was truly a Christian.
Were they masons?

"life liberty and pursuit of happiness" vs "to know, love and serve God on this earth in order to live with Him forever in Heaven"

I think I can tell a difference--this is more than grammar

Beats me. The fact that Ernest Borgnine is a Mason has me thinking twice. He's one of the greats of modern American thinking.

Further, the idea that the government gets its power from the governed is another example where the documents clash with Christian theology

We need to inform Robert Bellarmine and Thomas Aquinas that they were on the wrong track:

Declaration of Independence: “Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Bellarmine: “It depends upon the consent of the multitude to constitute over itself a king, consul, or other magistrate. This power is, indeed, from God, but vested in a particular ruler by the counsel and election of men” (“De Laicis, c. 6, notes 4 and 5). “The people themselves immediately and directly hold the political power” (“De Clericis,” c. 7).

St. Thomas: “Therefore the making of a law belongs either to the whole people or to a public personage who has care of the whole people” (Summa, la llae, q. 90, a. 3). “The ruler has power and eminence from the subjects, and, in the event of his despising them, he sometimes loses both his power and position” (“De Erudit. Princ.” Bk. I, c. 6).

"""we are definitely not a Christian nation now."""

Neither is any other nation. "Light" Christian is the best any country can hope for these days, IMO.

No wonder we are losing the war on terror.

LONG LIVE BENEDICT XVI !!!

St. Robert, per your quote, does acknowledge that authority comes from God, as even the Savior Himself stated when being interrogated by Pontius Pilate. For the Angelic Doctor, this is just one quote, I would need to see more to believe that he truly means that people have ultimate authority without reference to God.

I have no issue with representative government (I am not one of the rare royalist/monarchists on FR) as it certainly tends towards the Catholic principle of subsidiarity but our Declaration of independence/Constitution are not Christian documents.
They may have a Christian influence but that is all.

I would agree with that. Not too many countries acknowledge our 'Creator' as the source of our rights.

I have no issue with representative government

Good deal. I just wanted to point out that it does not seem to conflict with Christian theology.

With you, I also doubt we will be able to find St. Thomas saying ultimate authority resides in man. Just can't imagine him saying that.

I didn't say that the founding fathers were all "godless athiests". I said that masons were sworn enemies of the Church who put certain ideals before God Himself....................................................

Hi here are a list of Free Masons who helped to build America....:)

George Washington, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, James Polk, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, James Garfield, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Gerald Ford

I don't know. Maybe you're right. However, Ernest Borgnine always did seem weird to me. He's the one that gives me the shivers.

But it is of interest to note at this point that those who are to be in charge of the state can in certain cases be elected by the will and judgment of the multitude, and Catholic doctrine makes no opposition nor resistance. By this election by which the prince is designated, the rights of the principality are not conferred, nor is the power committed, but it is determined by whom it is to be carried on. Most of you are ignorant. Sorry but it's true.

The back of the dollar bill says New Order of the Ages or New Order of the Times.

seculorum is actually a more 'modern' latin version of the word saeculum which means generation, lifetime, age, etc.

Seculorum or saeculorum is the plural genitive form thus correctly translated as 'of the Ages or times'

"So tell me Argus...have you actually read the book?"

Yes, and I actually threw it in the trash so I would not be responsible for anybody else reading it.

I found it to be very sophmoric and full of lies, inuendos, and half truths about the Catholic Church. The research for it could have been found in one day on the internet reading the teenagers posts at "Above TopSecret", or any other conspiracy website. And I'm sure it was.

If one more person says "It's only a novel", I think I'll puke.

"Or any other book for that matter?"

Oh, a back woodsman is now the resident scholar on FR? Where did you find this book ay, did it come free with case of Black Label?

"That so many members of the Masons hhave risen to positions of prominence makes me want to look at this organization more closely."

And what are you going to look at? While you are at it, check out the Moose and Elk clubs also. I understand some of them have been pretty prominent.

Down here, in the lower 48, we have known of the Masons for a few years now, but we do appreciate the input from someone who has just discovered them and announcing we are asleep if we don't jump up and down over it.

"But you just stay blissful."

You stay away from the Black Label

Freemasonry is bad news. I might also add that no Catholic male is allowed to be a Freemason. That should tell you enough.
