Arctic Anglicans to reject same-sex unions

IQALUIT – The Anglican Diocese of the Arctic will vote on a motion this week that could officially declare its opposition to same sex-marriages and unions.

The diocese is holding its annual synod, or gathering of church officials, in Iqaluit.

Declaration on Sex
Adultery, fornication, and homosexual unions are intimacies contrary to God's design. The church must seek to minister healing and wholeness to those who are sexually scarred, or who struggle with ongoing sexual temptations, as most people do.

Homophobia and all forms of sexual hypocrisy and abuse are evils against which Christians must ever be on their guard. The church may not lower God's standards of sexual morality for any of its members, but must honour God by upholding these standards tenaciously in face of society's departures from them.
They'll vote on a motion to adopt a document called the Montreal Declaration as a statement of faith.

The declaration was written 10 years ago by a group of conservative Anglican churches.

It's controversial because among other things it says homosexual unions are against God's design and weaken the family.

"Nowadays the Anglican Church of Canada is struggling at the moment," says Bishop Benjamin Arreak, who is chairing the meetings.

"Because of that, we all need to be reminded and encouraged so that we come back to our real foundation of the Anglican church. And so that we will be able to minister to all people."

If the motion passes, that would mean the Arctic diocese would have opposed same sex marriage before the national church officially debates the issue in 2007.

Bless their hearts, freezing their Anglican gazoogles off in the Arctic! They have better things to think about than "same-sex unions" (spare us, Oh LORD) ... like the seal-blubber harvest.

I'm on the mailing list for the Catholic Bishop of Northern Alaska ... bush-pilot bishops, snowmobile priests, and dogsledding nuns.

No ... everyone has gazoogles, although their exact location is unclear.

Clean air makes for clean minds and clean souls.
One of the few "unpolluted" places left in Canada.
Ontario and Quebec are like soddhom and Gomorrha (sp?
for both).
