You are correct. In the Old Testament, a prophet who was wrong was understood to be a liar who was wearing the mantle of God's prophet falsely. He was stoned to death.

Deuteronomy 18:21-22.

There are at least two to 4 cases of very major prophets where that did not happen.

No, I will not get into the details. I've done that in other threads hereon. I don't care to get into that contentiousness again.
