Don't want to start a vanity for this . . . BUT PLEASE HELP.

Am looking for artist and song title suggestions. I'm trying to down load a bunch of additional songs for my MP3 player--I like a limited variety of worship/Christian music.

Old hymns are fine depending. Judy Collins on Amazing Grace is great.

I liked the old HYMNS TRIUMPHANT first tape.

I like some contemporary Christian music IF

IF

IF

it is NOT heavy beat rocky, noisey, obnoxious in those terms.

I like more folk song ballad style or at least melodious.

Any suggestions?

Twila Paris: "Lamb of God"
Amy Grant: "El Shaddai"

"Be Thou My Vision" is old Gaelic, similar style as "Amazing Grace," and it's beautiful. There's several versions out there, some not so hot, so listen to all before you judge the piece.

My Favorite, I think: "Oh, Happy Day," by The Edwin Hawkins Singers, circa 1964

Michael Card is great.......VERY deep lyrics, very 'listenable' music.

Jars of Clay is a good group that goes beyond the fluff of most 'Christian' contemporary pap.

The stuff I like is rather dated,(early 80's) but see if you can find some early works from "First Call" or from "SilverWind". You might also like some of the stuff from Steve Camp.

I listen to a lot of different Christian music - Delirious, Third Day, Caedmon's Call, Rebecca St. James, Newsboys, etc. My wife's a big fan of Randy Travis and Sandy Patti.

The way I've always seen it, the lyrics are what make it "Christian"...not the tune. I like a lot of the heavier, "rocky" stuff, but I think that's primarily just due to my youth. If the words are edifying, and theologically sound, it's a-ok in my book, regardless of what sort of beat is put to it. I listed to Christian rap, reggae, and hip-hop...as well as classic hymns.

That being said - I will not, will NOT participate in a worship service that includes many of the contemporary songs in it's service. As another poster put it - there's a time and a place for contemporary Christian tunes, and inside the sanctuary is not one of those places. IMO, it lets people approach worshiping the LORD in a casual, relaxed way, and not one of humble reverence.

That casual atmosphere is indicative of the many problems that churches face today with lazy worship services, which results in lazy teachings, which results in lazy lifestyles - absent from Godly awe and humility.

I'm late to this party as I've been out-of-town for several days. Let me just say that I'm not a big fan of most contemporary Christian music. Having said that, however, there is one particular CD from a contemporary artist that I think is quite worshipful. It's now several years old, the artist has a lovely contralto voice, and the words of her own writing cut deep: Kim Hill, artist: Title: Fire Again
