Did Bishop Rifan leave SSPX to join Campos or was he with Campos from the beginning? Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought the latter.

Rifan has always been in Campos, but Campos was with the SSPX until they pulled an FSSP-type deal 2 years ago. Bishop de Castro Mayer was the bishop of Campos Brazil who was a loyal ally of Archbishop Lefebvre. The two of them consecrated the 4 current SSPX bishops together. After Bishop de Castro Mayer died, his successor arranged a deal to set up an indult situation with the Vatican.
