If you are planning a read through the bible excursion, then the New Living Translation is great. If you are going to sit down for some serious bible study, then you need a word for word translation rather than a paraphrase.

I actually prefer the King James Version or the New King James Version.

After all, if it was good enough for Moses, then its good enough for me.

ROFL,,,,The King James Version wasn't created until 1600's...King James of England had it translated. Moses only had ten commandments, there was no compiled Old Testament, only Hebrew writings. The New Testament was written in Greek. The NIV and NKJV are actually translated from the ORIGINAL WORKS, and approved by Pastors, Priests, and Scholars of Greek and Hebrew.
