Need Info on Bible Translation

I was recently given a bible that is designated as the "New Living Translation". It's much more readable than my King James, but I don't know anything about the reliability of the translation. I would like to hear opinions from anyone who knows anything about this. Thanks!

I think you know better by now than to believe that I think I'm 100% right in all matters of faith and life.

Depends on what you mean by witness persecution of Christians.

I observed first hand the heavy handed monitoring of the government churches by the Party overlords and stoolies.

And I knew personally folks who suffered greatly for Christian and other honorable stands they took during the Tienanmen related democracy demonstrations and aftermath.

Certainly all churches are flawed as are all church members. Christ still has a remnant. And, the Bible speaks of a throng no man can number. I get more eager for that day--day by day.

The KJ is a bad translation. Even in the first edition the translators had a note saying they did not know all the latin and greek so they guessed at the words. The KJ also adds and takes away some words. The douay is more accurate and pre-dates the KJ. Most of the KJ,that is accurate, was plegerized from the Douay. The Douay is the only bible declared by a council to be free from doctrianal error.
The Douay is complete with all of the books that are suppossed to be in the bible.
This site will show you all the errors in the KJ http://www.catholicapologetics.net/0002kjv.htm
And by the way King James was a liar, compromiser, murder, and sodomite.http://www.catholicapologetics.net/0002kjv.htm

Sorry allen but the catholic church has survived for 2000 years in spite of her people. She is the only 1 true church established by Jesus, she is the only church that goes back to Jesus and the apostles, all others are johnny come lately man made religions. Your KJ bible was ordered put together by a sodomite.

"That is how scripture is distorted and just as quickly, someone says something, someone else picks up on it, next thing you know, a religion will be built around it."

Wow! I didn't realize I just started my own religion! My first inclination was to call it the "Church of the Holy Charitable Calvinist Catholics"? Although I must say I don't believe in transubstantiation so I'll have to come up with a more catchy title.

"The Douay is the only bible declared by a council to be free from doctrianal error."

Er, what EXACTLY does that mean? What you're saying is that the Douay is the only Bible to be translated to reflect the doctrine of your Church.

The NASB is based upon the Greek-Hebrew text. I'll take the original translation over a church council's translation who wants me to believe in their doctrine any day.

It's a paraphrase and not a translation.

In many ways it's useful as a commentary on what a particular passage might mean.

But, if you're ever in a discussion about the actual words of the passage, you'd better switch to one of the translations: KJV, NASB, RSV, YLT, etc.

A variety of translations at this link:

The King James Version wasn't created until 1600's...King James of England had it translated. Moses only had ten commandments, there was no compiled Old Testament, only Hebrew writings. The New Testament was written in Greek. The NIV and NKJV are actually translated from the ORIGINAL WORKS, and approved by Pastors, Priests, and Scholars of Greek and Hebrew. Take another look!

I don't know where you get your information. The bible was written in King James English. King James English is the language that was spoken in the Garden of Eden and was spoken by everyone on earth until the Tower of Babel. If you don't believe me just read Genesis. Every conversation that is recorded in Genesis is recorded in King James English.

When Moses came down from the mountain he had the 10 commandments and it is clear that if you read the account in Exodus, the Ten Commanments were written in King James English. Indeed Moses brought down from the mountain the entire Old Testament which was written on plates of Gold in King James English. The plates were placed in the Ark of the Covenant and weren't discovered until the Middle Ages by some guy named Gutenberg who made a copy and sold it to Thomas Nelson Publishers.

As for your silly notion that the New Testament was written in Greek, that is just not documented. Jesus didn't speak Greek, he spoke in King James English. Just read the Sermon on the Mount. It is in King James English! If it were in Greek, then how did anyone understand it? The Sermon on the Mount wasn't preached in Greece, it was preached on a Mount in Israel where the people all spoke in the original King James English, not Greek. Yeesh.

Look, I saw the movie the Ten Commandments and Charleton Heston and all the characters in the movie were speaking in English, even the Egyptians. And did you see Ben Hur? English! It may not have been King James English, but it was close. So don't try to tell me that the Bible was written by illiterate foreigners and aliens who spoke in backward Tower-of-Babel-cursed languages like Greek. That's just silly. You'd better take another look. I'd be willing to bet your Bible is written in English. And get a DVD of Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. You'll see.

Charleton Heston as Moses clearly spoke English, but that Nefertiri chick....I think she had an accent.

Sounded Greek to me.

Basically, though, history is on your side. When Joseph of Arimathea and Mary Magdalene ran off to found a royal line, where did they go?

ENGLAND!!

I rest my case, counselor. And if you don't realize it, they speak ENGLISH in England. And in those old days, they spoke Kings James English. Except for King Arthur and the Black Knight. They spoke with a modern english accent. I saw the movie.
