This isn't the first time I've seen people raise very serious concerns with the NAB. I bought all three of my Catholic bibles a couple of years ago when I was still Anglican; the NAB, the RSV Catholic version (the Ignatius Bible), and the Douay-Rheims. I read a bit of the NAB, but haven't in some time. I use the Douay-Rheims or the RSV Catholic (The Ignatius Bible) version. I favor the Douay, it seems to be the least "monkied around with" version.

The Douay Rheims is a great translation.

It is beautifully written, very literal and translated by devout Catholics who were suffering for their faith.

Ironically, the Gospels of the Douay - published almost 30 years before the KJV - are reproduced almost verbatim in the KJV.

Evangelicals would be loath to admit, but the Douay was a major source and model of the KJV.

Look around and try to get a real Douai Bible. The popularly distributed one from TAN is the Challoner Revision. He's the 18th Century English Bishop who had the novel idea of translating "Christus" as "Annointed" intead of "Christ" in the Psalms, thus removing them from their prophetic context (among his other translational sins). He also excised all the anti-Protestant Tridentine-era footnotes and marginal amplifications which provided such a marvelous commentary on the Bible from Catholic Tradition against the heresies which surround us in the English speaking world.

The NAB problems are hardly a new phenomena for English speaking Catholics. They've simply taken very long standing problems to a new level. Its right in line with the total unavailability of the commentaries of Cornelius a Lapide in English.
