What's with the "presider" business in the first place? Why is the presider's chair in the central place of honor instead of the tabernacle? Why all the excitement at handshake-time? Why has the sacrificial altar been traded-in for a table? Why has a prayer-before-mealtime been substituted for the Offertory which had offered a "spotless Victim" to the Father? Inquiring minds want to know.

Why is the presider's chair in the central place of honor instead of the tabernacle? ... Why has the sacrificial altar been traded-in for a table?

That's not a defect of the Novus Ordo.
