AND
MAN'S MORAL NATURE.

In order to have an intelligent discussion of about the topic, which is the title of this thread, one must have at least a cursory knowledge of the work of John Calvin. Merely second sourcing citations will most likely quickly reveal to discerning posters that you are woefully ignorant of Calvinism.
I have provided an online book, of which I have skimmed, but not read every jot and title, for reference of a source which makes the claim that Calvinism does make God the author of Sin. See section 3 of the book.

It's quite possible that it can happen, I just don't believe that it did.
Of course my beliefs are inconsistent...they are BELIEFS, not absolute facts. God may make me a Christian tomorrow or a Hindu...who knows!!
I will have to look up pantheist, but it sounds good. I also believe that I could be completely wrong. It seems that you feel the need to label someones beliefs, why? My beliefs could change completely tomorrow, then the label would be incorrect.
You may not agree that it is biblical at some point to pull back Jesus said not to cast pearls before swine ( no offense to Stu)
If stu doesn't want to hear the message, that doesn't mean other freepers and lurkers are not affected. And if you think one time around with the gospel message is enough gospel for anyone, then you should have moved on from these threads years ago. Why are you still here?
Marlowe , I do not want to fight you on this. I just think perhaps time could be better spent . Some years ago (before the spilt forum) I posted a sermon on "are you saved" I could not believe the response , it was a very busy thread.
Maybe starting a new thread on the topic of the Gospel would be worth while.
I am still here because there are alot of people that post anything BUT the word of God in an attempt to convert. So I sow the gospel, I trust that God can and will work through that .
So I think it is presumptuous of you to determine when the Holy Spirit has stopped working. If you feel that your participation would amount to nothing more than casting pearls before swine, then you should not participate. So, (no offense to RN), butt out.
That could be why Jesus will have to separate the wheat from the tares in the church when he comes. So many "converted" by the will and work of men and not God.
You don't sound like a very nice person...I'm certainly glad we're all anonymous here.
But then, it just goes to reinforce my thinking that sometimes God may not make really nice people.
As I recall it was RnMomof7 who referred to you as a swine (no offense was meant-- so she says). I call her on it and you think I am not a nice person? Its a Bizzarro world.
Seeing the context she used it in..I don't care....but calling someone a liar like that..on a Christian thread at that..it's disturbingly amusing to say the least.
Marlowe is a nice guy , we just hold different positions on SOME things ...so we can both get a bit harsh sounding at times, but that does not mean that we do not see each other as Christian family . (Do you have siblings that you argue with? It is kinda like that )
Hey Stu did you read the article on the gospel I posted? Might be of passing interest to you
I think if he is going to earn a negative reputation in the eyes of the lost like Stuart, he should do it by fidelity to the Name of the Lord, not by a hostile attitude to the saints. From my own perspective, I took what you said as a compliment. It did seem to me you were comparing his methods to those of the Apostle Paul. Perhaps, in his case, it really isn't true.
Your brother,
Christian.
PM asked me to retract my statement that he has not used scripture to present the gospel here because he did post a a post" composed entirely of scripture."
He is correct, he did use a scripture in this post.
Isa 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

So he has indeed presented one scripture and I was in error.
Peace

There are few of them on the Religious forum. ;O)
I'm going to bail out of this thread. I don't feel there's anything further I can contribute to the discussion. You seem to have long ago made yourself comfortable with your spiritual condition and beliefs.
If you have any further questions please direct them to the posters that are left here.
Shalom.
That's very true since we operate by faith.
or idea of what will happen after you die."
I'm not sure what exactly Heaven will be like but there is a Heaven and very much a Hell. God's elect will go to Heaven to be with Him.
"I would be lying if I said I believed it happened...it may have, because anything is possible with God, but I don't believe it did...it's a BELIEF!!"
Peter, who was willing to die a horrible death hanging upside down on a cross because he didn't feel that he was worthy, said:
2Pe 1:16-19 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty... and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention..."
I never said what you had was not a belief. I just called it a superstitous belief, for that is exactly what it is. You have nothing more than an irrational blind belief. Now, perhaps, you are willing to set your future on such a superstition, but I didn't call what you have not a belief.
There are actually some Christian cults who opperate on nothing more than a "gut feeling" as you put it, but don't compare such heart burn to the wonderful beliefs of the founding fathers of my country. When they spoke of the self-evident nature of truth, they were not speaking about superstitous heart burn.
I happen to agree with them. I think there are a great many things which are self-evidently obvious and have no need to be blindly believed. The Apostle Paul opened his letter to the saints in Rome by speaking on the self-evidently nature of his eternal power and Godhead. He says that the intent of this revelation is so that no man may be with any excuse when he casts them aside onto the garbage heap, which I referred to in my last post to you as Gehenna.
stuartcr: You bring up the point that I have been trying to make all along when talking of these matters...God, sprituality, the after-life, etc. There is NO real proof available anywhere for any of this...many base their beliefs on the bible...a book...many believe it to be the infallible word of God....this is no more valid than a gut feeling, or intuition, or self-evidence...no matter what you say, you have nothing more to substantiate the bible being the word of God, than your belief in it.
You are wrong. There is actually more evidence for the historicity of the books in the Bible than there are for any book of antiquity which you can name. We can be quite sure that we have the eye witness accounts, whether you believe their accounts or not. You may think the men who wrote those books are lunatics and liars, but you can be certain that what we have today came faithfully from their pens.
That is neither heart burn, nor blind superstition. It is a decision that what they wrote is self-evidently true based upon its historical accuracy, untiy of message by the authors, etc.
In the service of the Lord,
Pilgrim.
I think this deserves to be highlighted. It is actually one of the things I had in mind when I was talking about the evidence that the Bible is true.
The eye witnesses themselves were willing to die horrible deaths for this witness. It defies all reason to suggest that if they knew what they were spreading was a lie they would be willing to suffer such things as they did. I don't think there is any other group in history who has suffered such things for what they knew to be lies.
In the service of the Lord,
Christian.
