Vatican, Mar. 24 (CWNews.com) - At his weekly public audience on March 24, Pope John Paul II (bio - news) recalled that 20 years ago, he consecrated "all of humanity" to the Virgin Mary, thus fulfilling "our Lady's plea at Fatima."
The Holy Father began his remarks by reminding his audience that Thursday, March 25, is the feast of the Annunciation, "which allows us to contemplate the Incarnation of the Eternal Word, made man in Mary's womb." He added that Mary's "fiat" echoes the obedience of Jesus to the divine plan, "to which we must add our 'Yes.'"
The Pope said that at three different times during his pontificate, he has made consecrations to the Virgin Mary. On December 8, 1978-- just weeks after his election-- he consecrated the Church and the world to the Immaculate Conception. In June 1979 he renewed that consecration during a visit to the shrine of the Black Madonna in Poland. Then on March 25, 1984, he made the consecration which, he said, fulfilled the terms of the Virgin's plea at Fatima.
The Pope said:
Twenty years have gone by since that day when, in spiritual union with all the bishops of the world, I entrusted all of mankind to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in response to Our Lady's plea in Fatima.
Today's world remains too full of "hatred, violence, terrorism, and war," the Pope said. He asked for prayer for all the innocent people who suffer from violence as "so much blood continued to be shed." He appealed to the Virgin Mary's aid to help turn men's hearts and minds, to end the violence.
Although his voice was halting, the Pope read the entirety of his remarks, in Italian. When he had finished his formal delivery, he offered greetings to the 14,000 people assembled in St. Peter's Square for the audience, speaking to them in French, English, German, Spanish, and Polish. He remained in the Square for nearly an hour, giving his blessing to young couples and to the sick, and posing for pictures with pilgrim groups.

It seems that the overiding concern of these people is the importance (cleverness/intellect) of their own opinions.
When Peter was confronted with a very obvious situation where Jesus was being arrested, he responded with his own opinion which was "let's fight and defend The Lord". When told "put down your sword" he obeyed regardless of his own opinion. When the vicar of Christ tells us something is right (or wrong), I obey regardless of my own opinion. Time for all sedevacantists, SSPX's, etc to put their own puny opinions aside and listen to the Church!
FANTASTIC ANALOGY GoBoks! Way to USE TRUTH to demonstrate the point. God Bless.
Black Elk, ninenot, Desdemona: there's something special in what I read above... good for TTGC perhaps?

Acts V, 29:
But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God rather than men.

***When the vicar of Christ tells us something is right (or wrong), I obey regardless of my own opinion. ***
But there is more to the story...
In Galatians Paul recounts how he stood up to Peter over some issue because Peter was wrong! See below...
"When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.
When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
"We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners' know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified."

Yeah, most of us are in the know about the account. In fact, some traditionalists use that passage to justify their stand. That is why the Pope is only infallible when he speaks "ex cathedra."

It is possible that the Pope could become a notorious and pertinacious heretic and thereby be ipso-facto deposed. But Rome [the Apostolic See] cannot lose the Faith because "this See of St. Peter always remains unblemished by any error", although her Bishop can, in which case, having separated himself from the Church, he would no longer be the Bishop of Rome.

You have some very good points and thank you for them. Please expect the schizzies to question your sanity.
Imagine obeying Christ's representative on earth. What can we be thinking? </sarcasm

Believing in apparitions is integral to Catholic belief, so if this surprises you, you must not be Catholic, perhaps an agnostic?

Believing in apparitions is integral to Catholic beliefThis is not true.
Apparitions are private devotions, and are not integral to Catholic belief, in any sense.

There were many demonic fake apparitions that occurred around LaSallette (during the same time as the real apparitions) - it is well documented in books about demonics - so this should not surprise anyone that such ploys are the handiwork of the devil.
To: LiveFreeOrDieAmerica
LaSallette is the least reliable of Marian apparitions.

Yes, only Novus Ordians have the true faith - especially those who espouse "speaking in Tongues" or "baptism of the spirit" (apparently a new sacrament - how wonderful - just like the new mysteries of the Rosary - obviously the Holy Mother wasn't wise enough to capture all of the mysteries). So now we understand that those who cleave to the ancient faith are "Grunerites", etc. - and yet we see that "Pope JP II" meeting with heretics and pagans in pictures above - obviously he was right then - but that doesn't apply to those who don't accept the the new novelties! Shame, shame on us who refuse to worship at the feet of the false prophet! Even if he abandons the True Faith. I suggest that all the Nervus DisOrdians do just as JPII does - get blessed by a Voodoo Priest - have naked women at your masses - and have a Indian priestess put ashes on your head - then come back and tell us how wrong we are - give me a break!

Approved apparitions - such as Fatima - and LaSallette (i.e. the Immaculate Conception) are more than simple personal devotions (like a sacramental), they are confirmed by the Church, and sometimes guide it (as in the case of the Immaculate Conception dogmatic definition). To deny this - or cast dispersions on approved apparitions - is putting yourself above Holy Mother the Church - a position you do not possess regardless of your delusions.

Belief in private devotions, while possibly beneficial spiritually, are, nevertheless, not necessary for salvation and not part of the deposit of faith.
The Church's approval of an apparition is not an endorsement of said apparition.

That "broken cross" staff of Paul VI is horrendous. I went through a tour of the Papal Museum in the Sistine chapel. Beautiful religious artwork, in chronological order, until you "entered" the era of Paul VI. It was like viewing art from a totally different religion. I hadn't even noticed I was viewing art in a chronological order, until I entered Paul VI's room. I had to retrace my steps to figure out the sudden departure.

Right... and the Immaculate Conception dogma had nothing to do with LaSallette - right? Or was that one the "least reliable"? The Church investigates the veracity of the vision to determine if it is from Heaven or Hell - and thus judges its merit. Of course - that doesn't mean anything - that Heaven would send a message - not REQUIRED or part of the DEPOSIT OF FAITH - like speaking in tongues or baptism of the spirit or the new decades of the rosary - All this Marian stuff is just ISIS accretions - right? I am so confused now! Whatever you do - don't read Louis Marie DeMontford - that guy was really off the track - private revelation - blah blah blah - clearly not "Novus" enough for all of us enlightened ones. We have to understand Mary (the whole Blessed Virgin thing is so dated) - as an "unwed mother" as I heard recently in a N.O. sermon - much like unwed mothers today - Blasphemy! You will know them by their fruits - of the N.O. - I see no fruits but heresy and falling off of vocations and belief in the True Presence - truly - a Springtime of Faith - wouldn't everyone agree?

Yes, by all means obey the Pope, like when they had several Popes at one time - you had to obey them all -right? Or not - did you have to discern which was the true Pope and follow the one that taught the truth? Hmmmm - seems a bit more complicated then just blind obedience. Since there was a real time and place that the simple postulation did not work - it would suggest that a time could occur when a claimant was not valid - life is so complicated. So much easier to blindly follow your local bishop (even if he is a homo) - or worse a pedophile - all those who seek to unseat such bishops are just so disobedient - aren't they? But what do such wolves in sheep's clothing deserve? What did the merchants despoiling the temple deserve - and get rewarded with from Christ's hand? But don't pick up the sword - WHEN GOD's ONLY SON TELLS YOU NOT TO - otherwise it is DEPOSIT of FAITH that sustains us - and we must oppose those who would despoil it.
To: sinkspur
That's a good one - thanks. No, drunk in the spirit- I'm about to start barking like a dog and rolling on the floor -man - the fact that orthodoxy has to be defended is so ridiculous - and that people would abandon our Holy Mother's messages - really a pitiful, horrendous time. But Cheers to you - May God Bless you and Keep you.
