Vatican, Mar. 24 (CWNews.com) - At his weekly public audience on March 24, Pope John Paul II (bio - news) recalled that 20 years ago, he consecrated "all of humanity" to the Virgin Mary, thus fulfilling "our Lady's plea at Fatima."
The Holy Father began his remarks by reminding his audience that Thursday, March 25, is the feast of the Annunciation, "which allows us to contemplate the Incarnation of the Eternal Word, made man in Mary's womb." He added that Mary's "fiat" echoes the obedience of Jesus to the divine plan, "to which we must add our 'Yes.'"
The Pope said that at three different times during his pontificate, he has made consecrations to the Virgin Mary. On December 8, 1978-- just weeks after his election-- he consecrated the Church and the world to the Immaculate Conception. In June 1979 he renewed that consecration during a visit to the shrine of the Black Madonna in Poland. Then on March 25, 1984, he made the consecration which, he said, fulfilled the terms of the Virgin's plea at Fatima.
The Pope said:
Twenty years have gone by since that day when, in spiritual union with all the bishops of the world, I entrusted all of mankind to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in response to Our Lady's plea in Fatima.
Today's world remains too full of "hatred, violence, terrorism, and war," the Pope said. He asked for prayer for all the innocent people who suffer from violence as "so much blood continued to be shed." He appealed to the Virgin Mary's aid to help turn men's hearts and minds, to end the violence.
Although his voice was halting, the Pope read the entirety of his remarks, in Italian. When he had finished his formal delivery, he offered greetings to the 14,000 people assembled in St. Peter's Square for the audience, speaking to them in French, English, German, Spanish, and Polish. He remained in the Square for nearly an hour, giving his blessing to young couples and to the sick, and posing for pictures with pilgrim groups.

Who really cares about this Fatima stuff? Does anybody really believe that story with the phenomenon in the sky and little kids that saw the Blessed Mother? Let's use a little common sense here.

From a previous post...
The more I study the the supposed appearances of Mary the more I am becoming convinced that the purpose of them is slowly and by stages to lead people away from a focus on God and Christ at to a "safe harbor" in Mary. Let me give you an example from Fatima...
"...Do you suffer a great deal? Dont be discouraged. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the road that will conduct you to God."
...
"To prevent this, I come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays. If they listen to my requests, Russia will be converted and there will be peace. If not, she will scatter her errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; many nations will be annihilated.Jesus wishes to make use of you to have me acknowledged and loved. He wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart."
Here you see hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart... Pray, pray a great deal and make sacrifices for sinners. So many souls go to hell because there is no one to pray and sacrifice for them.
These appearances are about Mary and her roll in redemtion. Granted, God and Christ are present in the above - but the Father and Son are supposedly telling people They want them to be devoted to Mary. Some are even calling this the Marian age - which, to my mind, goes squarely against scripture when it says,
"God, having of old time spoken unto the fathers in the prophets by divers portions and in divers manners, hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in his Son" Heb.1 ASV

7Q: Didnt the Pope succeed in performing the consecration of Russia in 1984?
A: No. As Sister Lucy herself declared in a September 1985 interview, the attempted consecration of March 25, 1984, did not satisfy Our Ladys requests because there was no participation of the bishops and there was no mention of Russia. In consecrating the world in general on that date without mentioning Russia, the Holy Father himself acknowledged in the presence of tens of thousands of witnesses, both during and after the ceremony, that the people of Russia were still awaiting our consecration and confiding. The next day these statements were reported in the Popes own newspaper, LOsservatore Romano, and the Italian Bishops publication, LAvvenire.

So, why is Rome trying to rewrite the Fatima request? I have gone out of my way NOT to criticize the Pope too much on this site. I have tried to give the benefit of the doubt to all the inconsistencies and illogical behaviors coming out of Rome. This is the last straw.

There's a good article that I read about the contradictory statements Sister Lucia has made concerning this consecration. I wonder if she has been co-opted.

The last time Sister Lucia spoke unrestricted in public was in 1985. The alleged interviews around 1990 and subsequent spin by Cardinal Sodano is highly suspect.

Didn't take much, I guess.
The Gruenerites have gotten to you, too.

No, sinkspur. I'm merely honest and willing to take an objective look at the facts. Something is very rotten in Rome.

Something is very rotten in Rome. The Pope said he made the consecration. Fr. Gruener says he didn't (Gruener's got this "Fatima ministry" he has to protect).
I know who I'm going to believe.

I should add, I don't like church authorities lying to me. The Pope has been caught in a huge lie and despite his inclinations otherwise, a huge disrespect to the Blessed Virgin by twisting her words.
To: sinkspur
The Pope also said in 1984 that he had NOT made the consecration. Those were his own words in front of thousands of people and printed in several secular newspapers. This has nothing to do with Father Gruner, he has simply become a convenient scapegoat for pointing out the truth.

The Pope has been caught in a huge lie and despite his inclinations otherwise, a huge disrespect to the Blessed Virgin by twisting her words. LOL!! So say the Grunerites. If you want to believe a guy who's got a ministry to shill for, as opposed to the Vicar of Christ, go right ahead.
Oh, the shill has been suspended a divinis by the Vatican, BTW.

This whole debate is silly! If you doubt the Pope's bona fides vis-a-vis the Blessed Virgin, then you have a major perception problem.

If you are not willing to be honest then you are the one with a perception problem.

You don't see the utter ridiculousness in this statement? So, in the view of the Gruenerites, unless Russia is mentioned by name, Russia is not consecrated?
Gruener himself is a bit unhinged, so the stuff that comes out of his "ministry" is going to be unhinged too.
Kinda like the assertion that Sister Lucy is being held hostage by the mean ole Vatican.
But, believe this nutbag if you wish.

Just because the statement seems ridiculous to you, do you deny that it was printed in the Vatican newspaper?

Just because the statement seems ridiculous to you, do you deny that it was printed in the Vatican newspaper? No. But, the "statement" is the summary of the Gruenerite position. Sister Lucy and JPII now both say that Russia was consecrated. That ought to be the end of it.
But, when you've got money to raise and a personal cult to foster, it won't be.
