My information did not come from a Catholic "bashing" site. My reference came from a Catholic site by a Catholic. If you favor Scott Hahn position over Bob Sungenis that’s OK. As I said in post #14 there apparently are two sets of opinions here. It’s difficult to know which is true.

I know the Catholics are very sensitive. I research EVERYTHING and when I disagree with a Catholic post I try to use either a Catholic or a neutral source. Even with a neutral source many of our Catholic friends here still consider it Catholic “bashing”. This is the first time I used a Catholic source and had this reaction.

Yes, Luther and Calvin might have been excommunicated but I'm sure they were aware of it. But I don't see the point.

There are probably just as many Protestant “bashing” sites as there are Catholics. Occasionally articles like this are posted “bashing” Luther or Calvin or someone else. Generally, its by someone who has “seen the light” and join “the true church” because of blah, blah, blah. And from Post #2 it does seem to confirm the purpose of this testimony. I personally think this is a good thing and is how we grow by challenging each other. (I spent weeks researching various positions on the Eucharist.)

There are a number of people who join the Catholic church while there are probably just as many who leave to join a Protestant denomination. I don’t have the statistics in front of me. I’m sure I could find a testimony by a Protestant who converted from Catholicism and how wrong the Catholics are.

It APPEARS based upon a Catholic source and verified by non-Catholic sources, that Dr. Scott Hahn seems to be a “flake”. Whether this is true or not I don’t know. What’s disappointing is that Catholics seem to wily nily jump on this as some Protestant who saw the light rather than looking at this person with a more critical eye. Judging from some of the comments posted here that appears to be the case.

Harley, I wouldn't say Scott Hahn is a flake but he is strongly post VII Catholic. His theology is very much in line with the current Pope and Magisterium's thinking.

I haven't waded into this feminine Holy Spirit discussion because I just don't feel up to it today, but given several Scriptural sources on the nature of Wisdom (Sirach, Wisdom) and the writings of mystics, I can fully understand why Scott and others would make a statement such as this. Again, I haven't read the pro or con articles in detail yet.

If he's a "flake," he's a flake who's one of the senior members of the theology faculty at one of the few orthodox Catholic colleges left in the US. He's also a flake who's foudned an apostolate to encourage Catholics to study Scripture. He's also a flake who produces some of the best Bible study tapes around. He's also a flake who has a regular television show on EWTN ... I guess that makes them a bunch of flakes as well. He's also a flake whose work has done a lot for my own faith.

C'mon, Harley: Protestant apologists are going to trash Dr. Hahn because they consider him a traitor. Schismatic traditionalist Catholics are going to trash Dr. Hahn because he isn't one of them, and doesn't hew to the "Vatican II ruined the Church" line. I guess if he's disliked by both the "Catholicism is anti-Christ" crowd and by the "Vatican II is crypto-Protestantism" crowd, that makes him either a flake ... or a Catholic.

Come to think of it, I'd be honored if you'd conclude that I'm a flake, too.
