Spurgeon thought See this is the problem with me. I like to stay in the book. I don't even like it when my preacher says that "so in so" said or wrote.....I'm always asking him where in the bible he gets stuff.

I think youre desire to stay in the book is admirable - but would caution that some really beautiful rumination of them has already been put to pen by folks smarter than you and I (and other posters here).
I'd suggest starting with the concise (brief) commentaries of Matthew Hentry who shares some lovely thoughts
