I may do more than that. I may be interested in hosting a daily 12-step thread on this forum.

He just looked em right in the eye, told the truth like a man, and set about fixing things. He finally admitted his addiction after the media broke the story. Even then, he waited a weak with a fairly lame excuse.

Well said...Many a consevative is a reformed liberal...I am an old hippie whos drug experiences were not for the faint of heart....I never needed a program to stop as I was as close to madness as you can get and sanity was an obvious choice...Ive got lots of family and friends who go to all sorts of meetings however and I cant think of one of them who is better than another

The one area that I was in disagreement with Rush was his stand on drugs. I found my opinions were more influenced by what Dr. Dean Edell had to say on the subject.
I believe our stupid drugs laws are partially responsible for Rush's addiction. In an attempt to prevent medical doctors from becoming "pill pushers" the FDA monitors their prescriptions of pain killers. If a doctor prescribes more than the government thinks he should, the doctor would find himself under federal investigation and could lose his medical licence. This causes most doctors to under medicate their patients.
Because of government policy many chronic pain sufferers are left without adequate relief from their pain. This forces them to seek alternative means of getting their medication.
The drugs that Rush has become addicted to are dangerous and should not be taken without a doctor monitoring the patient. But, if Rush's doctor was scared off, by FDA regulations then it was government's interference in his treatment that has lead Rush into his predicament. The irony of this would not be lost on Rush or his listeners.
I wish Rush a speedy recovery. If I had not stumbled across an over the counter food suppliment to help me with my chronic pain, I might have found myself following him into a dependence on pain killers.

Look, Rush said he does not want to become a victim. I'm taking him at his word on that and will not make him a victim. He's got a problem, he has to deal with it. And part of that problem is that he is on record speaking out about drug abuse.
The left is going to point that out and it's the truth. He'll deal with it and I hope he simply gets right and takes whatever punishment he's got coming like a man.
I'm praying for strength for Rush and look forward to listening to him in the future but for now, he needs to get himself right.

As for the indirect damage caused by their addiction: Can we please, in the name of mercy, lay that on their disease, their pushers and their inattentive doctors?
not sure i agree with your analysis in your post...but...what is indirect damage ?

He finally admitted his addiction after the media broke the story. You missed the point. He did not deny it when confronted. He didn't come up with lame excuse like "I took the pills, but I didn't swallow".

My guess is that his housekeeper saved Rush's life In a twisted way, that's probably true -- better exposed then decomposed. However, I wish that someone would ask more questions about Wilma and David Cline's motives.

I was thinking about costs to society, such as lost productivity, increased cost of law enforcement, increased costs to our health care system, etc.

However, I wish that someone would ask more questions about Wilma and David Cline's motives. They are junkies which never fail to rat out friends and connections for money and/or avoiding jail. Happens every time.

So is Rush going to explicitly come out against the WOD now? When he returns to the air, is he going to use that voice and charisma against forfeiture-on-suspicion? I don't know. My point is that, to the best of my recollection, he has not been explicitly for "The War on Drugs."
I think even the eight year old 1995 quote, in its entirety, probably went something like, "If you want to stop this problem, then you must send the users to jail," NOT "I advocate putting a stop to this problem, and I advocate sending users to jail."
To: ecurbh
He didn't come up with lame excuse like "I took the pills, but I didn't swallow". I consider the "I can't comment until I know all the facts" explanation rather lame.

SEE-BS? Letting the left frame the argument as usual.

And what, pray tell us, is the over-the-counter food supplement for us who have chronic pain to deal with?

Did you notice that the same quote has been recycled by every single liberal on the networks? I think CBS is overrated.

So he got pushed. He didn't want to be pushed. He didn't want to be outed and forced to admit his weakness... But when he was pushed he made a choice. Hopefully it will save him.

Limbaugh was talking about recreational drug useSadly, many people who suffer from chronic pain do end up using prescription drugs 'recreationally' if they become addicted.
And having your maid score some for you because your doc will not write a script for you is hardly legal.
