"Why yank Pedro?"

Because the prevailing thinking is not to let starter go beyond 7 inning. I don't see many complete games anymore.

Timlin's been so money in the playoffs.

Timlin is always good for one inning. Yanks go 1-2-3.

Timlin came through for the Sox this inning. 1-2-3. Rivera coming on to protect a one-run lead.

Pedro was struggling all day long. I've rarely seen him hit so hard by ham 'n eggers. He treated Giambi, Williams and Soriano like little milk maidens but the rest of the Yanks lineup are great at working the count and making him throw a lot of junk.

Don't discount the letdown after that adreneline rush during the brouhaha back in the fourth. He was ready for all comers, and that wears you down after the testo high fades away.

If the Bosox pull this out, they may just be a team of destiny, hooking up with another team of destiny from Chitown.

How cool would THAT World Series be?

You gotta protect the plate though on anything close. At least thats the way it was when I played. Looking at the post season I'm not sure it applies any more.

Good to see Damon back in the game. He sure got the worst of that collision.

Torre hasn't been hesitant to pitch Mariano for 2 innings lately.

I just realized that I went to college with Mike Timlin! He was a year ahead of me.

He makes nearly 2 million a year! Maybe I should have been a baseball groupie! :)

Grady Little:

"Hmmm . . . Timlin has finished his inning . . . no hits again . . . who should I have pitch the next inning? Maybe someone who's been pitching lights out . . . do I have anyone who's been pitching really well? Arroyo was good the other night, Williamson has been good, especially those Game 3 and Game 4 wins . . . threw a lot of pitches . . . wonder why he screwed up in Game Five the next day? Hmmm, maybe I'd better not use him, don't always understand . . . who could pitch in the 9th? Timlin . . . no, he just pitched an inning . . . that would be two in a row . . . that wouldn't be right, would it? Maybe if I brought in Embree, Sauerbeck, and Jones for one batter each . . . and then Lowe if we make it to the 10th . . .

I don't remember Rivera ever blowing a save in the playoffs. Anyone remember Rivera blowing a save or losing a game in the playoffs? Hmmm . . . let me think . . .
