"I'm horrified at the thought that Schwarzenegger can be our governor," said Gretchen Purser, 25, of Berkeley, who voted against recall. "I'm sick of Republicans trying to take over the state."

Great finds. Verifies so much. That the writer won't state her occupation -- Labor advocate for illegal aliens -- because she wants the Far Far Lefty to appear mainstream. That those involved in sociology are really involved in socialism, as indicated by her commitment to 'labor studies' (read, Marxism). Notice, also, that the event at which she presented the paper is about how day laborers should be unionized (given political power so as to demadn socialist entitlement programs, I'm quite certain). A union rep. is of course present at the event. Also speaks at how certain programs at the universities are becoming extensions of the Democratic Party.
This woman is not a student -- her studies serve political purposes only. For all intents and purposes she is a political operative.

I'm surprised the commie a-holes at Berkeley haven't put a hammer & sickle on their flag.

Post-adolescent idealism is so cute....she'll be a capitalist before she realizes what hit her. As with most of the liberal elite, she will become a household capatilist and a societal socialist.

Thanks for the original research on ol' Gretchen. . . I've got more news for you about Berkeley residents. It's not just the young who are leftist/Marxist!
There's a whole lot of disabled of various ages - even retirement age - who live in Berkeley and believe with all their heart others owe them a living. Subsidized housing (apartments), utilities, phone, food, and taxis if they could swing it. . . (FYI, the taxis are the ONE item on this list which is still unsubsidized capitalist).
Anyone besides Angry Clam (who is a resident there) who has visited Berkeley of late? I have. It's scary, moreso than Halloween is. You park your car, walk the sidewalk, and you can't. There's a protestor (or protestors) telling you how to live your life. You walk in the middle of the street instead, where you could become a traffic injury statistic. No grace given in Berkeley, generally. What a mean place. . . Parking is tough, too. And you have to watch what you say and how you look at someone. . . they could take offense at you looking at them, you know.
Visitor and business friendly they ain't!
Guess what? It's my "joy" to go to Berkeley on business this Friday. Hope Gretchen hasn't put out her "welcome" mat for me. . . It gets tougher each trip to go there. Please pray with me for the citizens of Berkeley. . . a dark place indeed.
Source of my information: an unnamed Freeper wannabe friend of mine. . .they have to stay undercover there in Berkeley, after all!

A well-educated nitwit. Gretchen, dear, here is how it works. There are two major political parties. Sometimes one is in the majority and sometimes the other is in the majority. They are not trying to take over the state. Each party is trying to win as many elections as it can win can win. That is the political process. Unfortunately, your side is filled with lying, cheating scum who hate this country. And you have body odor.

UC Berkeley flew the American flag at half mast on Bush's inauguration day.I'm surprised to hear that they fly it at all at that school.
