Rush a 'Little Frustrated' by Drug Allegations
fox ^ | 10-03-03

Political commentator Rush Limbaugh (search) returned to his popular radio program Friday and said he was "frustrated" about allegations that he was involved in the sale and use of illegal drugs.

Limbaugh was back on the air one day after his name surfaced as the possible target of a criminal probe into the sale and use of illegal drugs in south Florida.

On the national program, which is carried by about 650 stations across the country, Limbaugh spoke briefly about the allegations of his drug use but avoided going into specifics. He said he was "a little frustrated" that he had not "gotten to the bottom" of what was happening.

"The story in Florida really is an emerging situation ... I don't really know the full scope of what I'm dealing with," he said. Limbaugh said he'd been humbled by all the supportive e-mails he'd received from fans, estimating he'd received about 25,000.

As for all the media stories that have emerged about the drug investigation, Limbaugh said that he was "tempted" to respond to them but "I'm not going to go there."

But he vowed to discuss the case in detail in the future.

"Rest assured, I will discuss this with you and tell you how it is ... maybe more than you really want to know about this," he said.

Ouch...now I know how Rush feels.

LOL

I just think people here should prepare for the obvious. Rush is a man. A great one even with this failing. I hope he beats it. He will be even greater if he does.

This is one of those can't win situations. If everyone who ever took something prescribed for someone else, half the men and all the women would be guilty. Rush has almost certaintly taken at least something not specifically prescrbed for him. Having to admit this will be embarrassing. But he almost certaintly didn't do so to the extent he is accused. So what do you say? The answer isyou say what your lawyer advises you tosay.

I'm a little frustrated by his refusal to simply say, "I did not illegally acquire prescription painkillers."

At this point it looks very unlikely that he is innocent. The Enquirer people would not pay out big bucks to the informant and risk very serious legal problems if he was not guilty.

Yea, sure. The Enquirer has never been wrong about anything.

The FIRST THING any competent lawyer would tell Rush in this situation is not to say anything until the he and the lawyer have gotten together and gotten a handle on all the facts and allegations, and formed a plan/are on the same page for dealing with them.

And that doesn't mean that Rush isn't either totally or largely innocent. Any good lawyer knows that there is a large difference between what is true, and what can/does get proven in court. Lot's of guilty people never get convicted; a not inconsequential number of innocent people get tagged for something--often because they fly off the handle and say something rash.

That's not how it should be in a perfect world, but that is in fact the way the world is. Any realist--and Rush is a realist--knows that and acts accordingly.

The upper limit on pure narcotics is huge. That being said I think the women is lying about the eventual destination of all the pills she bought. I bet her immunity is contingent on just having got them for Rush her employer.

I have been a long time listener also. While I believe there may be something to the allegations I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Others throwing around statements here that he is a drug addict is assinine and juvenile at the least and irresponsible at the worst. To immediately believe the worst is counter-productive to the a conservatives way of thinking.

I'll take a wait and see attitude.

Can't remember Limbaugh's exact words in his 1st or 2nd segment, but it went something like "...some of you [his fans] will be surprised..."

Hello.

Sure he's lawyered up.

I'm surprised he's barely off his beat today. Having an army of call screeners doesn't hurt, either.

I've heard that Art Bell had (or has...) a 7-10 minute delay between call and air so he can "fix" the continuity if he gets a really "undesireable" call.

How real-time is Limbaugh?

I hate to say this, but I remember hearing Rush a couple of years ago on the air slurring his words.

I remember that very well. I heard it too. But his slurred speech corresponded to the time when his hearing was going, and the problem cleared up after the implantation of his hearing device, so I'd ascribe his slurred speech to his loss of hearing.

Nevertheless, I don't believe his non-denial denial.

Why do you seem so gleeful and insistant that he has a problem? I'd think that if in fact it were true, maybe ,you'd have a little compassion!!

I wonder if Rush's brother David had any inklings of Rushbo's alleged problem?

I'd like to see your sources. That is NOT what I heard, but rather that the police were investigating a drug ring. I have not heard any independent confirmation that Limbaugh was associated except that he employed this maid, who WAS under investigation. These are not small differences.

There are many people who wind up in investigations who are not implicated with wrongdoing.

I know exactly how he may feel. I was caught up in an investigation that covered a lot of people. Luckily I had not done anything wrong, but I will tell you it is a worrisome time with all the questions and lawyers telling me not to talk to anyone about anything.

"Conservatism took a hit?" Stock market up again. Jobless claims down. Kay pretty much confirmed the WMD programs; Kuwait arrested guys involved in a TRANSFER of WMDs from Iraq; several congressional groups return from Iraq and say things are going pretty good; and Arnold will get elected as the first Republican since Wilson in CA. Rush's problems are a ding, but party bats 1000%. I say, despite the left's best, we nevertheless emerge pretty damn good ---and they know it, and it's killing them.

This is true, if Rush is at least somewhat guilty.

This is total nonsense if Rush is innocent. An innocent man would have nothing to lose by denying the charges.

I hope the accusations are wildly false. I have not taken a position on the accusastion yet (though my posts might lead you to believe otherwise). I have been commenting on my current gut feelings on the matter.

I too have a very empty feeling in the pit of my stomach. But the evidence so far is Enquirer, and heresay. I would like for Rush to put the matter to rest. From the statements with which he ended his show though, I would say he's on strict orders from his lawyers to simply not address the matter at this time.

We'll just have to wait.
