Who else got sacked because of comments? Well, the "Jimmy the Greek" by talking about the slave owners breeding their slaves and that is why blacks are good athletes. Howard Cosell used that "look at that little monkey go!" comment. Both of those were much worse than what Rush said.Cosell, after referring to Alvin Garrett of the Washington Redskins as the "little monkey" was not sacked.
Al Campanis, GM of the LA Dodgers, was sacked for stating that blacks did not have the mental capacity to work in the front office.
I believe Campanis MEANT to say blacks were not getting front office jobs because there weren't yet enough blacks with the necessary experience to get those jobs, which was true at the time. It simply came out all wrong ("they lack the necessities") and he was branded a racist goon and ostracized until his death. His obituary was pretty much entirely about one incident where he phrased something awkwardly. This is a much better example of a vicious unfair media backlash and subsequent firing than the Rush incident.
