I believe Campanis MEANT to say blacks were not getting front office jobs because there weren't yet enough blacks with the necessary experience to get those jobs, which was true at the time. It simply came out all wrong ("they lack the necessities") and he was branded a racist goon and ostracized until his death. His obituary was pretty much entirely about one incident where he phrased something awkwardly. This is a much better example of a vicious unfair media backlash and subsequent firing than the Rush incident.

His obituary was pretty much entirely about one incident where he phrased something awkwardly. In Boston they call this getting "Bill Bucknered" (well, maybe they don't, but Bostonians know what I mean). Rush is his own boss on a very popular radio show, so he probably won't share that fate, except among those who already hated him.
