Recall, Schwarzenegger ahead in new LA Times poll [Schwarzenegger 40, Bustamante 32]

Voters favored recalling Gov. Gray Davis by a large margin in a Los Angeles Times poll released Tuesday and Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger was ahead of Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, a Democrat.

It was the second recent statewide survey to show Davis badly behind and Schwarzenegger in the lead. There is a week to go until the Oct. 7 election.

For whatever reason, you're post to me was pulled, but I did see it on the "My Comments" screen. Not only did you keep up the name-calling, but you posted an excerpt calling McClnitock supporters "obtuse" and "unsophisticated". Talk like that ain't gonna help things, son, especially when several of the powers-that-be on this board are "obtuse" and "unsophisticated" as y'all like to say.

There's been a lot of damage. The animosity expressed here has been (still is) breathtaking in its scope and severity.

I remain resentful toward the out-of-state vitriolic and vociferous McNader supporters, because it's a game to them, but not to me.

I think, Arne Fufkin has expressed the sentiments of Arnold supporters, and I think you will see our point and perhaps you might even agree with us:

Will the Greens have a big show at the election?

Early in the campaign, Camejo had an unofficial pact with Huffington calling for one of the two candidates to drop out if the other appeared close to victory.

Camejo said he has no intention of withdrawing and said Huffington's withdrawal could help his candidacy and take votes away from other candidates.

"Every poll shows if Arianna drops out, the Green Party would go up," he said.

Green candidate, Camejo, thinks he will be picking up the crumbs left by Arianna.

After years of controlling every statewide office and the state legislature, the Democrats are finally acting scared. Just the face of McAuliffe and Davis at election night will be priceless.

and lets not forget Bill Clinton. I remember when Chris Mathews couldn't stop talking about how Bill clinton was going to get the base out and turn the recall around. Also how Davis was talking with Clinton constantly getting advice. Another blow for the so-called "political genuis-guru" Clinton. I have not heard much in the news lately about Clinton's influence on the recall election.. I wonder why?

Polls indicate that had Arnold not entered, McClintock would have handily won over Cruz and California would have ended up with a conservative governor.

No, the polls only show that Tom would get more votes than Cruz, neither with a majority. The fact is that the pro-recall figures only went sky high when Arnold's numbers did. That suggests that most people in the middle wouldn't vote for the recall if the only choices were Cruz and Tom. They were just holding back from deciding until they saw if Arnold looked up for the job. After the debate they decided he was. If not, they would just vote no on part one, and Davis would remain Governor.

Tom would have really dropped out of the race to give it to a more viable conservative candidate? From what Ray Haynes described, it doesn't sound like it.
