[history]
Voters favored recalling Gov. Gray Davis by a large margin in a Los Angeles Times poll released Tuesday and Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger was ahead of Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, a Democrat.
It was the second recent statewide survey to show Davis badly behind and Schwarzenegger in the lead. There is a week to go until the Oct. 7 election.

He still keeps his job. In fact, he can cause a lot of trouble because under the state constitution, he becomes the legal Acting Governor whenever the governor leaves the state. He can make appointments, sign laws, etc... Arnold better not leave the state while the legislature is in session.

Now you can win and be screwed by RepublicansI'm sure you're right but when you are drowning you will grab any straw. There is no way that Arnie could be worse than the Gray One.

Thanks for your reply, Jim.
It seems that many have lost sight of why we are having this Recall in the first place (before any candidate announced they wanted the job). We all wanted to dump Davis - and some of us worked hard, gathering signatures to get to this point, as it was an uphill battle. I have kept my eye on that goal and threw my support to Arnold when I realized he is the one who could achieve the necessary win. I like Tom on the issues, but he can't win. Maybe its because I live in a densely populated area that is overwhelmingly Democrat and liberal that I believe this so strongly. Perhaps if I lived in the Central Valley I'd have a different perspective....
FR has been a haven of sanity for the last few years - where those of us who live in Liberal-ville could come and associate with likeminded conservative thinkers. The last few weeks however, have been a huge disappointment to me. The attacks from within have put the libs to shame.... Pretty darn sad.
Regards, CC

So, we praise it when it suits our purposes and criticize it when it doesn't. Got it.
Yep, I think that's the way the 'tocks use it. Hang in there, you'll catch up with their methods.

(Why does McClintock think he's entitled to the Governor's Office?)
To: RGSpincich
"Stoos IS one of those 'right wing crazies'. The ones that have been trying to hijack the Republican Party for the last few years. McClintock didn't want his cover blown."You mean those same "right-wing crazies" who keep trying to hose down you RINO "pragmatists" from politically copulating with "moderate" Democrats?
There ain't a dime's worth of difference between left-wing GOP pols and the Dems -- one of you wears pink lipstick; the other red. THIS is the primary reason the GOP can't ever manage to grow a set of gonads and crush America's rampantly growing moral relativism, socialism, and supplant Clinton's operatives in the judiciary.
Your "New Tone" and "Compassionate Conservatism" has been an abysmal failure since Bush I, yet this is the direction your wing of the GOP continues to ride this runaway ideological freight train -- to disaster.
To: Central Scrutiniser; Admin Moderator
"Exactly, sadly, tonites moderator is a Tom fan which means its ok to censor those who are not part of the Tom cult."(sob, sniffe) It's not only "sad," but IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!
To: F16Fighter
And your pro-family, pro-gun, pro-life stance is inconsistent with your anti-kid agenda.
Your plans are a recipe for disaster. Eliminate access to contraception, reduce school budgets, eliminate existing after school programs and disregard youths with access to weapons. Spend the money on prisons and on law enforement to chase women around who want outlawed abortions. But that's okay because it's for "the children". Funny how that works for you but nobody else.
Then you'll abandon the kids after they're born.
But "you'll be back" won't you? You will have all those cozy new prisons all built up to house the adults you didn't give a rats ass about when they were kids.
That's right, the parents are supposed to raise the kids right. It's not happening, you know it and I know it. The fact that these kids cannot be ignored is only lost on the far right minority. The same minority that is noisy and illtempered and drives voters away from the Republican Party. You guarantee a Democrat controlled government by continuing to promote impractical and idealogical goals.
Now, if you want to back up and create a safety-net for these kids you saved from not being conceived and aborted, we can talk.

What h*ll are you talking about?? Don't worry about it. We disagree, to put it mildly.

Bull - this thing is gonna be over by noon. With pro-recall numbers nearing 65%, it won't take very many precints reporting before it quickly becomes apparent that Gray is gone and Arnie is the new governor Wow, more breathtaking ignorance. Precincts can't report anywhere until after 8:00 pm.

The representation of darkest evil is to say that, killing a child at the rate of 3000 a day is better than letting them live a tough life. On the other hand, those people who hold on to principles understand that, its not the tough life that counts, It is how you live it.
Many great Americans have started out poor, and had sucessfull lives. If Abortion is the liberal answer to low income families, why not snuff out the entire population under the poverty line.
The liberal left wing and Arnolds RINO minions need to realize that Abortion is the greatest child abuse.

Therefore, I was addressing the fact that we will have to wait until the evening to get election results, and for those in the East Coast, it's going to be a long night. I should have said, It's going to be a long night for East Coast freepers.
You're absolutely right that after the first precints start reporting, and the exit polls are released, it will become obvious who the big winner is.

Hello everyone, this is Dr. James Dobson, I very rarely get involved in partisan politics, but the campaign for California governor is too important for any of us to just sit on the sidelines.
You have a wonderful candidate in Tom McClintock. He is a principled, pro-life defender of the family. Tom McClintock has the courage to stand and fight the left-wingers who have overrun the State Legislature. They have made California a laboratory for disaster for families, and it will take a strong hand to steer California back on course.
Tom McClintock and I have discussed what changes must be made, and I am absolutely convinced that Tom is the only candidate who can get the job done.
Please know that I am speaking as a private citizen and not for any organization. But I also speak with great hope in what California can become again, if we do not settle for less that the best.
On October 7th, vote yes on the recall, and then vote for Tom McClintock...the only candidate who will restore common sense in Sacramento.

If Arnold were out of this race you would have a constant smear campaign against Tom. The usual ultrarightwingconservativeantichoicehomophobestoneageracist stuff. Tom's support would drop and fast and we'd have Gov. Cruz.
The only reason Tom has been spared the attack is that Gray/Cruz hopes to split the vote. Don't play into Gray/Cruz's plan: Vote Arnold. He's not the perfect R, but he's not a D.
