It was over the top and dumb. I didn't see it, but reading his remarks, this is Rush's Jimmy-the-Greek moment.
Why even allude to the guy's race? We've got critics of Quincy Carter here in Dallas, calling him "dumb," and "not instinctive" and "not able to think on his feet."
That's all code, slamming Carter because he's black.

Sadly, and since I saw it, I have to agree with you. It was a very, very dumb thing to say.

But what if he is dumb, not instinctive and really doesn't think on his feet?

The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.He took fodder made for the talk show booth into the sportscasting booth. Limbaugh's had a net positive effect on this country, but that comment was unwarranted.

Well, Quicny Carter isn't a very good quarterback.
Current ratings of QBs from the ESPN.com website;
Out of 16 listed QBs for the NFC,
10th Carter - rating = 73.8
15th McNabb - rating = 51.1
An average rating is about an 80, and anything less then 70 normally gets one benched.
Oh, and as to the larger point, I've heard much the same comments on most every highly touted QB that Rush used with McNabb.
ESPN.com is run by a bunch of hate mongering racialists. Recently they were claiming the NFL was racist because the percentage of black coaches wasn't the same as the percentage of black players.
I sent them an email pointing out their writers - mostly ex-players - was virtually all white - and significantly whiter then NFL coaching staffs. The spineless wonders refused to address my point...

Did you ever hear what was said about Elvis Grubac when he was in Kansas City. The same things said about Carter only far worse. It wasn't code about Grubac being black. It was about him being a sorry quarterback, just as the criticism of Quincy Carter is about him being a sorry quarterback.

It was a dumb comment, pure and simple. He know there's a huge spotlight on him. He was hired to do sports, NOT social commentary. What an idiotic thing to say. I'm a HUGE Rush fan, but this is moronic.

Jimmy the Greek was not racist.
Howard Cosell was certainly not racist.
Dusty Baker is not racist
Rush is not racist.
The world would be a lot better off without the one-strike rule.
