I don't think so. Remember; ESPN is owned by the most politically correct corporation in America.

You know, a lot of us Eagles fans aren't all that happy with McNabb...do I think he's there because he's black? No, that seems patently absurd to me, and I think Rush is seeing something that isn't there. But after last year I'm not 100% convinced that McMabb is the right guy.
To: GulliverSwift
He's making a point about political correctness and affirmative action. He seems to be saying the Eagles would probably have benched a white QB by now based on similar performance, but that McNabb is getting a longer run at recovery because benching a black QB might look bad.

I don't see anything racist in Rush's commentary.
But he did imply McNabb was a token, which will probably get him in trouble with the PC crowd.

The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.He took fodder made for the talk show booth into the sportscasting booth. Limbaugh's had a net positive effect on this country, but that comment was unwarranted.

I think he is deliberately tweaking the libs who complained about his being on ESPN.

There are ways to do that and I agree with him there. But to use the black QB issue as one is nuts. If he had just left it with his original comments, I think he would have been fine. But he had to add the part about McNabb and that's where he got in trouble.

I agree it was dumb... I just think he's injecting race specifically to get a rise out of his critics.

I tried to watch that ESPN show Rush is on but I just couldn't abide all the hollering and guys trying to talk over each other.
It reminded me of a bunch of drunks in a sports bar.

Well, Quicny Carter isn't a very good quarterback.
Current ratings of QBs from the ESPN.com website;
Out of 16 listed QBs for the NFC,
10th Carter - rating = 73.8
15th McNabb - rating = 51.1
An average rating is about an 80, and anything less then 70 normally gets one benched.
Oh, and as to the larger point, I've heard much the same comments on most every highly touted QB that Rush used with McNabb.
ESPN.com is run by a bunch of hate mongering racialists. Recently they were claiming the NFL was racist because the percentage of black coaches wasn't the same as the percentage of black players.
I sent them an email pointing out their writers - mostly ex-players - was virtually all white - and significantly whiter then NFL coaching staffs. The spineless wonders refused to address my point...

But what if he is dumb, not instinctive and really doesn't think on his feet? If he can keep winning (Dallas beat the Giants and the Jets), these same idiot white critics will start calling him intelligent, acuitive, and the master of dexterity.
Except, they won't use those words, because they've never heard them in a Budweiser commercial.

To: GulliverSwift
No, I think he's a conservative. That'll bring out the racist charge every time.
To: sinkspur
Well, perhaps they'll learn the right words from a Colt 45 commerical.

I think Rush is suffering from the same phenomenon that undermined Dennis Miller. The idea of having a non-sports guy on the show might sound good to the TV marketing execs. But once the non-sports guy gets there, there's really no meaningful role for him.
Dennis tried to create a niche by making obscure literary and cultural references that virtually no one understood. Now Rush is inappropriately injecting politics.
Rush is the best at what he does on his own show. He should go back to it and leave the sports to the pros.
To: mhking
Rush is not a racist and doesn't have a racist bone in his body. His love and passion for football sometimes gets the best of him. To him football is more than just a game.

Any suggestions about alternatives for QB?
Rush runs in where wise men never tred. Why? Who else in this day and age would have the chutzpah to make such an outlandish accusation of either the Eagles organization or Donovan McNabb. I think it's more like a Woody Hayes sideline tackle then a Jimmy the Greek moment, but it's up there with both of them.
