Either McClintock or Schwarzenegger Likely Winner in California if Other Dropped Out |
With Arnold Schwarzenegger the Republican front-runner in the California gubernatorial contest, many GOP officials have pressured California State Sen. Tom McClintock to drop out of the race, fearing he will divide the Republican vote and allow Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to win. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted over the past weekend, shows that McClintock does indeed draw support away from Schwarzenegger, though not enough to deprive the actor of the lead among probable voters. But the poll also shows that if Schwarzenegger were not in the race, McClintock would likely be in first place by a substantial margin, rather than behind Bustamante.

I guess this would be relevant if Schwarzenegger, who leads McClintock by 22%, and has virtually every conservative endorsement in the state, was under pressure to drop out or had hinted at it, or even had the slightest motivation to drop out.

Don't tell Schwarzenegger, he's supposed to own this election.

When Hell Freezes Over describes how a lot of Republicans feel about Arnold. They'll vote for Arnold who is against everything they believe "when Hell freezes over" :)

**So many people have swallowed the liberal pablum that says Tom can't win. **
Has your opinion of Ray Haynes changed? He's supporting Schwarzenegger.
To: FairOpinion
A vote for McClintock IS NOT a vote for Bustamante. A vote for Arnold is a vote for HIGHER TAXES.

(I'm voting for Arnold. McClintock doesn't deserve my vote!)

Ya gotta laugh at how all of these "we only want to win, who cares if our beliefs lose" FReepers are trying to pretend that the Gallup organization is some irrelevant deal.
To: evilsmoker
Hard working Latinos dont want to work so someone else gets free cheese either. Why its considered politically inexpedient to point this out I dont know. Tom is simply being fair to Americans and legal immigrants.
To: Vindiciae Contra TyrannoSCOTUS
On Free Republic I'd wager that the number is way higher than 1/3.

Nahhh... only people whining are Arnold people in this thread.
IF MC CLINTOCK DOES JUST AS WELL AGAINST BUSTAMANTE IN THE POLLS - WHAT AGAIN IS THE RATIONALE FOR AN ARNOLD CANDIDACY?"
There is none!

If all conservatives voted based on their principles,And if a pig had wings, it could fly...
These last two months have made it abundantly clear that many conservatives do not and will not vote based on their principles. The treachery by these Quisling Vichy Republicans has ensured that Tom cannot win at this point. Over a million absentees have already been cast.
The game is up. Let's just hope Arnold does the right thing. Because you can be damn sure that Bustamante won't.

Both McClintock and Schwarzenegger need to stay in as insurance against last-minute dirty tricks from the Dems. A day or two before the actual election, one or the other can choose to drop out but both should stay in until then.
To: BunnySlippers
And you don't know, or care about the difference between a RINO rated liberal and a true conservative. And that ain't no LOL matter.
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
What part of 82-85% of California's populace won't vote for McClintock do he and his supporters not understand? Dang, it just gets more and more pathetic by the hour.

I love this. You (R)nold Groupies are exposing your naked, transparent lust for the Terminator as Gov by dodging the
issues this thread brings up; that the
Vote for Tom=Bustamante was a complete and total FRAUD from top to bottom. We all told you this repeatedly, I don't mind pointing out, yet you same tired people (I'll exclude conservativefromGa and Weimdog because I haven't seen them too much, but for you other tired shills) feel no Shame,
no Honor,
no Dignity
in simply giving a bit of ground and saying something like "well maybe, but I like (R)nold" or something.
Thanks, I hope the Lurkers are keeping score. I am.

(That's pre-election bogus, Arnold Schwarzenegger.)
To: Impeach98
Can someone explain why Arnold has radio and TV commercials talking about the wrongness of taking all this Indian money when he took the same Indian money for Prop 49?
His concern about the buying of elections by people who pay nothing to the government despite the taxpayer money spent for roads and services surrounding casinos is a good one.
But why then the hypocrisy?
To: DoughtyOne
You're the one getting more pathetic by the hour. What part of 'the top Republican vote-getter in the last election' don't you understand? Already more than three times the number of people you claim is the maximum that would ever vote for McClintock have already cast a ballot for him!
