Either McClintock or Schwarzenegger Likely Winner in California if Other Dropped Out
With Arnold Schwarzenegger the Republican front-runner in the California gubernatorial contest, many GOP officials have pressured California State Sen. Tom McClintock to drop out of the race, fearing he will divide the Republican vote and allow Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to win. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted over the past weekend, shows that McClintock does indeed draw support away from Schwarzenegger, though not enough to deprive the actor of the lead among probable voters. But the poll also shows that if Schwarzenegger were not in the race, McClintock would likely be in first place by a substantial margin, rather than behind Bustamante.

Also, in a state as liberal as this one is, I find it hard to believe that 56% of likely voters REALLY would vote for someone with Tom's positions

I don't.

If McClintock were only opposed by Davis he wins by default. A majority of Californians literally hate Davis and he's not Davis.

If McClintock is opposed by both Davis (part 1) and Bustamante (part 2) he's still not Davis and he's not perceived as a cultural bigot by the majority of the voting population. Against Bustamante he wins not by merit, but because the fear of Bustamante fueled by deep seated cultural bigotry

Iguess this would be relevant if Schwarzenegger, who leads McClintock by 22%, and has virtually every conservative endorsement in the state, was under pressure to drop out or had hinted at it, or even had the slightest motivation to drop out.

Thank you! Which makes McClintock's chances and this thread entirely irrelevant.

I can't wait for next Tues. to see McLoser and his desperate supporters finally fade away.

Great news!

Now maybe the surrender monkeys will want to salvage a little pride and come home to Tom McClintock. The surrender monkeys are now fresh out of excuses for sticking with the movie star. (Because he can "win", lol.))

Well, now it looks like McClintock can win.

Well, I'm sadly disappointed that so many people have taken it upon themselves to attack McClintock so viciously. McClintock is a fine conservative with a great record and does not deserve this abuse. I can understand that people don't think he can beat Arnold due to his money, fame, name recognition and backing by Wilson and other big name Republicans, etc, but this does not mean McClintock should have his name and reputation dragged through the mud. Whatever happens this election, we will still need conservatives like McClintock in California. Wish we had more like him.

Ambrose...

The game is up. Let's just hope Arnold does the right thing. Because you can be damn sure that Bustamante won't.

I am afraid the game is up as well...and in one year we will regret what the Moderates and Elite have done to us...

I'm not taking pot shots, Jeff. I'm asking a question that I'd like to get an answer for...what's the difference in a liberal 'Rat administration and a liberal Pubbie administration? I'd like to know.

As far as me being "safe" in Florida, how safe are any of us if your newly licensed illegal scumbag alien drivers get the right to vote? If what I heard on FNC today is true, that a federal law gives the right to vote to anyone with a drivers' license, and with Kali being the latest of four states that have given drivers' licenses to those diseased lawbreakers, then we, as a nation are screwed. So, if RINOneggar isn't going to repeal that stupid law when he wins, then yes, I am concerned, and yes, I am affected by your recall election. Illegals voting already got Bob Dornan thrown out of office, just imagine how bad it would be if they were able to vote legally?

I don't snipe at my fellow FReepers...I'm practicing for the day I have to snipe at other targets.

McClinton has a huge chance if the real conservatives that
want Tom's program turn out and vote for him next Tues
and against the CAR TAX, and against ILLEGALS' LICENSES,
cause nobody wants to vote for Busta and higher taxes,
even the Demos!

vote for him and have a conservative to help deliver CA
to Bush, and we can put Arnie in charge of his nannystate
after school program...

"...The RATS are going to spring a big surprise and the polls are going to be wrong. One GOP candidate needs all the votes because a wave of Hispanic voters will be going to the polls.

I've been saying the same thing for days.

I don't believe the Bustamonte poll numbers. They are way too low.

In addition to the Hispanics, consider the Democrat registration in every major California city (LA-SF-Sacto-San Jose-San Diego) and the voting power of the Unions, Teachers, Nurses, etc.

If they vote as a bloc, it is "Hello, Governor Bustamonte!"

This McClintock vs. Bustamante poll has a 10%-25% House Vigorish and queried a representative sample of 620 tribal owners, mobbed-up operational staffers, and catatonic elderly pensioneers attending "Krazy Keno Monday" at Casino Morongo.
