Hmm, "speaks fluent French."

Could this whole thing be a huge diversion? Could Wilson have outed his own wife to deflect the investigation into suspicions that he is a deep mole for . . . Elysee?

Did Novak say BUSH administration officials? Really? Where did he say that?

yes, semantics indeed.

Novak never said "White House" anything. He said "Bush administration", or "administration officials", which as you know could mean someone connected to any agency of the federal government, for example, the CIA.

Andrea Mitchell was quoted last night by Tom Brokaw on the NBC evening news as saying someone from the White House did call her, but it was after Novak's column was published, giving Wilson's wife's name. It can't be a crime to disclose information already publicly known.

Did you hear Imus asking Pat Buchanan to explain all this? Buchanan was missing several layers of common knowledge information, I just couldn't tell if it was intentional misinformation, (to further hype the story), or out of ignorance, because he hadn't watched Wilson yesterday on C-Span, or this morning on FOX&Friends.

Buchanan bragged to Imus that he and Press had broken this whole story on their Friday show. No one except the black FOX White HOuse reporter (I don't know his name), has acknowledged that the Justice Dept has been doing a preliminary investigation on this since last July, at the request of the CIA's legal counsel, not Tenet. Buchanan seemed to imply the Justice Dept had only recently been asked to investigate.

Getting all the facts is hard enough, playing words games is how the dems keep lies alive.

Morning Sauropod! There are some interesting perceptions and ponderings in this thread about the CIA Identity/Yellow Cake debacle. It is some of the best speculations I've read yet.

darknemus, please feel free to keep posting - you seem like that rare beast, an honest liberal - FR has allowed such to continue posting in the past.

Thank you so much, this does help explain what I saw this am.
Mr. Wilson is becoming an interesting character. He had no evidence of any of his allegations, just alot of gossip.

Now how the he!! he is the one sent to verify intel regarding CIA on nuke material is beyond belief. Yet one whose wife works at CIA has the power to get her hubby to go and make that critical determination makes the CIA look like idiots.

This man is on an agenda and he was not looking for "truth" about leaks, has already decided via gossip who is responsible.

"But, upon reflection, I conclude that FR was created, and remains, a place for conservatives to debate among themselves, rather than to debate with liberals. There are other forums for that. We need and are entitled to our place."

So, by discouraging polite liberals from discussion, we are just possibly, keeping those folks liberal. If we are true to our values, we just might succeed in changing the minds of potentially valuable allies.

I started out life in a Democrat household. I changed my viewpoint long before I discovered Free Republic, but I can guarantee that FR would have certainly helped me form my current way of thought.

Is this plausible?

Very. It's one of the ways to play the game in Washington, put somebody in the position to disprove a negative. What would be required would be for Novak to either reveal his source, which Upchuck knows Noval wont do, or, call the Putz in public what he is, a partisan, out for blood, hack. Neither will happen, so, Wash. is twisting itself and their comrades in the press over this event. Hopefully, it will blow over again, like the last time those inside the beltway twisted their panties in a knot about the "16 words".

A. This is a very serious crime. There are indications this goes to high levels in White House.... There would be at the least an appearance of conflict. This goes to "very, very high levels" in the White House. Only a Special Counsel can do a proper investigation. We need someone of the stature of former Senators Rudman or Danforth.

Where was UpChuck's outage when Linda Tripp, Kathleen Willey and others were intimidated on behalf of Xlinton? Where was his outrage when numerous conservative organizations, just happened to receive IRS audits during the rapist's tenure? Those events clearly went to "very, very high levels of the White House and represent an abouse of power that only RATS can get away with.

A. I don't think anybody has faith the faith Justice Dept. will do a fair investigation.

Yet, Chucky stood by Janet Reno, one of the most corrupt, incompetent of A.G's this country has had. Consistency means nothing to The Putz.

A. I've been in Washington 22 years, and I've never seen anything like this. They're angry at Wilson so they "out" his wife? That is "knee-capping." We don't know who did it. I'm not pointing a finger at Rove, VP Cheney or anyone else. But we know it was a high official and we want to get to the bottom of this.

Again - consistency. He and his party jumped into bed with Larry Flynt and outted Robert Livingston, Newt Gingrich, Henry Hyde, etc. Do you think their wives appreciated that?

A. Whatever the motivation, this is the right thing to do. If there were a murder, and someone demanded an investigation, it would be the right thing to do whether or not politics are involved.

Does that mean you'd like to see all the facts brought out or investigated about Vince Foster Senator? I mean - it would be the right thing to do. You'd like to be consistent, wouldnt you?

WOW!! I've always known that things are not as they seem in DC but man, those dots go all the way around the world and back again. That's not to say I think you're wrong, you've just widened my conspiracy perspective of the RAT party.

I understand your point. In that spirit, I did encourage the poster to continue visiting FR. Yes, it's true that he has adopted a nice, civil approach.

But if these boards started to become a place for debate between conservatives and liberals, even polite ones, I believe it would lose its character and be diverted from its mission. It would also become increasingly complicated for the moderators to police, picking and choosing between civil libs, polite-but-aggressive ones, etc.

I'd actually appreciate guidance from Jim Robinson on the issue.

Just had a lib professor who had been around for about a month get banned because he lied in an article that he wrote and posted. So the honest liberal litmus test sends another one to the dustbin. I would enjoy it if someone with a mindset like Nat Hentoff posted here - it's too easy debunking liberal lies, it would be a nice change to actually debate policy.

The matter of the use of the word "leaks" is at best a blatant misnomer. Charles Shumer should do just a scant amount of research and learn that there is no leak. There was the disimination of information that was public. The listing of the
wife's name was first located in an autobiography by her husband many months ago. Why would this be called a leak at this time? Let's get real..... k2afe

Go through all the threads on this subject. There is much that has been posted about this guys background. There is no doubt that he is an anti-Bush democrat party hack. He has been giving speaches against the administration for a while, and has work closely with several democrats in the past.

The real question is why this guy (with no intel or investigative experience)was sent by the CIA to inquire into the yellow cake stuff in the first place. It is beginning to look like his wife had a hand in him getting sent. I think that this matter needs to be investigated fully, I just don't think that what will turn up is what the democrats are looking for. Not that it will be reported if that is the case it will just fade away.

Why does everything have to be 'DemonRATS & RePUKES', etc, etc? So we disagree - oh well, we can still be civil.

Not going to happen. The Democrats keep falling farther and farther to the left(no the right is not moving farther and farther to the right). They are the ones who have been so uncivil for so long. Lets see I am labeled a member of the vast right wing conspiricy, k-mart shopping Bible toting, uneducated, gun fanatic, nazi, hatefilled, white male, conservative evangelical Christian, homophobic, right wing Republican.

Most Americans still remember how this country was founded and don't want to live like the French(14,000 died this summer because they pay so much in taxes they could not afford air condidtioners). We do not need a nanny government to take care of us and take our freedoms away. Nor do we want the US handed over to the UN(who want us destroyed). What very likely could happen at some point unless the left loosens up is a civil war. We fought for less during the American Revolution, 2% tax and freedom from England.

I am a transposed New Yorker and on your worst day in N.Y. with the twins of DOOM and Gloom (clinton and schumer) it is still better than living in the Peoples republic of Massachussetts.
I have never suffered even mild depression before coming to this state but after watching their politics for a few years, this place is beyond help.
