Well, actually, if you wish to be technically correct, he was a CARTER holdover. He first went to work for the State Department in 1976 as a career diplomat.

Oh, Miss M., obviously I was replying as I read and posted the link to Wilson's autobiography before I got to this post where you mention and link it.

The biography doesn't say that Carter actually hired him into the state dept., but, I accept that he worked in state during Carter's administration.

In any event, Novak is spinning when he says that Wilson was a Clinton Administration official. It's true that he was a Clinton Administration official just as it's true that he was a George W. Bush Administration official and a George HW Bush official and a Reagan Administration official and a Carter Administration official.
