Well, actually, if you wish to be technically correct, he was a CARTER holdover. He first went to work for the State Department in 1976 as a career diplomat.The biography doesn't say that Carter actually hired him into the state dept., but, I accept that he worked in state during Carter's administration.
In any event, Novak is spinning when he says that Wilson was a Clinton Administration official. It's true that he was a Clinton Administration official just as it's true that he was a George W. Bush Administration official and a George HW Bush official and a Reagan Administration official and a Carter Administration official.

I heard that Wilson was a member of Clinton's National Security Council. I would like confirmation or denial an dpromise not to repeat it until I hear more sources for it. Does anyone knwo anything about this?

In any event, Novak is spinning when he says that Wilson was a Clinton Administration official. It's true that he was a Clinton Administration official just as it's true that he was a George W. Bush Administration official and a George HW Bush official and a Reagan Administration official and a Carter Administration official.Novak is correct. Wilson was an ambassador under several administrations, but in a political capacity it appears from his bio that he served only in the Clinton administration. He also worked in the congressional offices of Al Gore and Tom Foley in the 1980's, but not for the administration.
