i think this kind of talk between the 2 camps may well be taking place anyways over the next 48 to 72 hours.

I think you are delirious and you haven't been listening to Tom for the past 6-8 weeks. He's in it to stay. That's the nice thing about Tom and why we all love him so. He means what he says.

Then if there are no intra-factional discussions and no concessions along the lines i have just painstakingly outlined, as i said in the closing comments, the option to still stand and vote for McClintock stands now, doesn't it?

Don't flame (even though you haven't yet).

McClintock has the advantage of having worked the talk radio circuit in the Bay Area, LA, SD and Sacto for years. He is well known to the Conservative grass roots base. Many have compared this to the Reagan - Christopher situation and rightfully so. Although it's a recall, it is really for all intents and purposes a pre-primary for the Cal GOP vis a vis the next scheduled standard election. It makes sense to take a risk now, when even if Bastagutty wins, it will only be for a limited amount of time. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Imagine, however, if McClintock wins; the first hard core Conservative governor elected in any state for quite some time. This could have a major positive impact on the '04 election and dash to pieces the accomodationist factions of the GOP. The McClintock Revolution - I like the sound of that!

Tom made TWO promises, not just one. He promised he would "not be a spoiler." And he promised he would "stay to the end." With nine days to go, Tom stands at about 35% of Arnold's support level, and has raised about 50% as much money.

Tom's two promises are now in conflict with each other. Please state why you choose the promise which you think he should keep, over the one you think he should break.

You're attacking this guy now? He has been one of your most loyal, and reasonable, voices! Dang it, man, he started this with an air of reconciliation.

Not that it matters since I don't life in CA, but my interpretation of his behavior is much different, especially when he gets that irritating smirk on his face.

The only thing I can't figure out is whether his behavior originates from delusional thinking or an overinflated ego.
