Fed up with these &^%$#& phone bills*. This last one took the cake.

So, I have begun looking at BB internet connection "telephone service", spec. Vonage. But this is strickly terra incognita to your's truly. Any thoughts, advise, warning, hints, whatevers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, -YD

*Nearly $56! W/ zero long distance calls, very, very basic services (we do just about everything via computer). It used to run over $70, but called phone company and with their help shaved it down $10 or so. Big woop! :op

For a cheap trial of VOIP, you could try signing up for Yahoo voice chat (no I DO NOT own Yahoo, nor am I a salesman). You can then get a Yahoo phone account that will allow you to call any landline phone for 2cents / minute (2.9 cents for 800 numbers). The "Yahoo" calls are VOIP, and are provided by net2phone. If you go through Yahoo, rather than directly through net2phone, the minimum amount is only $10.00. Worth at least a try, so you can see what the sound quality / delay is likely to be like.

I have had the vonage service for over 2 months now. Am very satisfied with it. They do have 911 service.

I had BellSouth and was paying $60.00 a month with no long distance. I now pay $25.00 a month and have 500 minutes of long distance each month. More than I can use.

I highly recommend it.

With vonage, if my internet connection goes down, all calls are routed to my cell phone. I don't miss anything. I love the service. Have had it for over 2 months now.
