Matt Houston, a 19-year-old sophomore, called the group's price list offensive.
"My reaction was disgust because of the ignorance of some SMU students," said Houston, who is black. "They were arguing that affirmative action was solely based on race. It's not based on race. It's based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization."
Sounds like it's based on race to me...

People who recieve favoritism are alway's going to percieve things differently than the one's having to pay for it. It's blatantly biased against whites but it doesn't seem to matter, so much for equal rights.

The posting of the original DMN article about the incident included this nugget:
""I felt they were attempting to make Hispanics and blacks feel inferior. We jumped over the same hoops to get there.""
...... and you didn't have to pay full price for the cookies either...

i.e. "Achieving diversity of race isn't based on race, it's based on diversity." The sad thing is, five of the most repected legal minds in the country actually bought that argument.

Matt Houston, a 19-year-old sophomore...My reaction was disgust because of the ignorance of some SMU students... Yeah, I used to say all kinds of stoopid sh!t when I was that age too. Though this guy sounds like an overly blovating a$$ bag who has been brainwashed by the liberal intelligensia.

I'm just so sure the ACLU is mounting a free speech lawsuit in support of this group (although can't hold my breath that long. lol).

" It's not based on race. It's based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization."... and therefore the brothers were so righteously angry that they "confronted" those holding the sale, causing the University to shut it down because it was creating an unsafe situation.

The group sold three cookies during its protest, raising $1.50.
Hmmm... they must have sold the three cookies to Hispanics, given their rates.
To: Poseidon
An enterprising black student would have snapped up the whole table of cookies at 25 cents apiece, and then quickly set up his own table to sell to everyone at 50 cents apiece. Much more profitable to pounce on an "opportunity" than to whine about a "hostile situation".

"It was really an issue where we had a hostile environment being created." As when, oh say..... one person has more required of him/her than another of different race/gender in order to qualify for the same (public funded) benefit? Hmmmmm.

This was not an issue about free speech," Tim Moore, director of the SMU student center, said in a story for Thursday's edition of The Dallas Morning News. "It was really an issue where we had a hostile environment being created." Translation- if enough members of aggrieved groups get together and start shouting, they'll get their way.
Who created the hostile environment Mr. moore? The students having the bake sale, or the people yelling at them and potentially threatening a riot?

So in about 10 years when the enterprising Young Conservatives of Texas members are gainfully employed and starting their own businesses....the whiners who gained access to SMU via affirmative action will have dropped out of college because they couldn't carry the academic load.
They will then be whining to the goverment to increase the minimum wage at their burger joint jobs.

The campus Republicans at UCLA did the same thing a few months back. They were shouted at and actually ended up cutting it short when angry fans of diversity and tolerance started throwing the stuff they were trying to sell (oreos and twinkies IIRC).
