WASHINGTON (AP) -- The American Civil Liberties Union asked the federal courts Tuesday to prevent the U.S. Secret Service from keeping anti-Bush protesters far away from presidential appearances while allowing supporters to display their messages up close.
The civil liberties group filed the lawsuit in federal court in Pennsylvania on behalf of four advocacy organizations that claimed that the Secret Service forced them into protest zones or other areas where they could not be seen by President Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney or be noticed by the media covering their visits.

You obviously haven't seen the ANSWER crowd. Well, I live in DC and I see them all the time. Yes, in fact, they're rather upfront about the violence part. Facts. Always useful in these discussions. I can't comment on ANSWER. I can comment on pro-life demonstrators. IMO, any demonstrator against the gubmint will dealt with as our leader Dubya knows how!

That's the aclu: they have an agenda and it does not include fighting to uphold traditional values and morals. Anything to the contrary, however, is good ground for the aclu's efforts it appears. They aren't very smart are they - must have been attending the schools/colleges that they brought about. Certainly they know they are on most people's "S--" list. It's a no brainer to take a case like Terri Schiavo's - look at all the points they'd score. Then again, they aren't too smart are they?

"We have already established that the Secret Service has done the same thing to Clinton protestors when he was President, so there is no unequal or one-sided application here."
You are kidding, aren't you?
I don't care which president did it, if you allow your supporters near enough to see and to talk to but you keep those who oppose you blocks away, that is unequal and one-sided. Period.
From this comment I assume you must approve of what Clinton did. If not, how can you approve of Bush doing the exact same thing?

We're not talking about Clinton vs. Bush, we're talking about the Secret Service. It's the same Secret Service for both Presidents, and they are treating the supporters/critics of each in the same way.
Look, the Constitution guarantees only the right to free speech, not the right to be heard or listened to. It also doesn't guarantee you the right to usurp the President's bully pulpit in order to get face time on the news.
As much as we may have griped about being pushed back during our protests, we understood that it was the prerogative of the Secret Service and respected their judgment and authority. It never stopped us from continuing our protests because our goal was to speak truth to whoever would listen.

This is an outrage of course, and I do hope these leftist anarchists are stopped in their tracks. Noticed today in their flier announcing their protest of the Presiden't visit to S. Cal that they mentioned it was the IDES of Oct. an obviously ominous reminder of Julius Caesar's murder on the Ides of March.
