"Gossett showed pictures of the school's Black Student Union, its members from all races; at one point, he said, there were more white students in the club than there were black."
I'm sorry, Californians are more confused than I thought.

The NAA(l)CP's reaction is so typical. If they do it it's "embracing diversity" but if whites do it it's "not culturally sensitive". You know he would just love to say "racist" but can't quite get away with going that far.

"I mean, why not? But couldn't she call it a White Heritage Club? That sounds more politically correct." One of many postings at Freedom High's Web site suggested calling it the "Euro-American Student Union." These people really are stupid. Why "white" heritage? What would that mean? You have to have under a certain shade of beige to belong? "euro-American" which would exclude other whites/caucasians? Caucasian is really a pretty inclusive word, the club would be open to many different ethnic types --- people descended from Europe, India, Persia, lots of Asia.

Good for her!!! It's about time someone showed up the hypocracy of "celebrating diversity" as long as it's approved diversity. The one sentence I found disturbing was this,
""What is white culture? What are we proud of?" asked senior Clint Simons, 17, who said not many people would want to join a Caucasian Club. "What will people do? Dance the electric slide?" This is the typical attitude of most Americans. Ironic that they have no appreciation for Western Civilization (so called "white culture") which gives them the freedom to spout even uninformed opinions.

Darnell Turner, the chapter's vice president. "The club, in name, seems like a backdoor approach to separation." And the NAACP isn't separatist? A Black student union doesn't suggest separation? Hypocrite
There was the Power of Unity Club, an umbrella group that oversees all the school's cultural groups,
???????? Is this 1984 double speak? Splinter groups = unity? I detect some serious brain damage over there.
This is typical of the existing racist and sexist groups that exist today: Their particular groups MUST be allowed to exist but the corresponding White or straight groups are hate groups. I heard a commercial on the radio that urged listeners to support the Black business community. I can imagine what would happen if someone urged the support of White businesses.
It ain't likely that unity will increase when we insist on the double standards that this article mentions. It only fuels a backlash which, IMO, increases racial hatred.

Senior Clint Simons, 17, who said not many people would want to join a Caucasian Club. "What will people do? Dance the electric slide?" Hey, don't knock it!
Electric Slide
Step to right with right, slide left together
Step to right with right, slide left together
Step to right with right, slide left together
Clap
Step to left with left, slide right together
Step to left with left, slide right together
Step to left with left, slide right together
Clap
Step back on right foot
Step back on left foot
Step back on right foot
Touch back on left toe (don't put weight on this foot)
Step forward on left foot
Swing kick right foot
Step back on right foot
Touch back on left toe (don't put weight on this foot)
Step forward on left foot
Swing kick with right foot turning 1/4 turn to left
Dance begins again.

"What is white culture? What are we proud of?" asked senior Clint Simons, 17, who said not many people would want to join a Caucasian Club. "What will people do? Dance the electric slide?" This is an interesting comment. The answer is to be found in a number of countries. Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, France, Russia etc. Yes, white people do have cultural traditions and dances going back thousands of years. Whether it be the Highland Fling or the Polka or Germanic tribal beliefs or Nordic legends, there is a huge body of white culture out there waiting to be found and this student's ignorance of it is probably the most effective argument for having a Caucasian Club.
One could start with the idea that Whites- like Blacks, Arabs and the Aboriginal American peoples- are tribal as well. Not that long ago they roamed the forests of Europe, hunting with spears just like any other tribal people.

"What is white culture? What are we proud of?" asked senior Clint Simons, 17, who said not many people would want to join a Caucasian Club. "What will people do? Dance the electric slide?" There is virtually nothing for which Caucasians can be justifiably proud. Unless, of course, one considers that 95-99% of all advancements in Science, Mathematics, Medicine, Art, Literature, and Philosophy is attributable to Caucasians. No, we don't have one month a year set aside to learn about it, and most high school students barely have a working knowledge of any of the disciplines involved. The "Electric Slide" might not be as cool as rap music, but the culture police has been inculcating the young sheep for so long, they have gotten their priorities way out of sync. Bravo and kudos to the young girl who is speaking out in favor of common sense and balance.

"It's not this serious," added Andrews, a freshman. "It's either we all have our clubs, or we have no clubs at all." Sometimes there is an inherent wisdom in youthful innocence. Looks like most of these kids can see the hypocrisy of the way things are.

DIDN'T FIT IN OTHER GROUPS Lisa, according to her mother, grew up embracing diversity, but she came home from the start of school upset that she didn't fit in the Black Student Union, Latinos Unidos or the ALOHA Club. There was the Power of Unity Club, an umbrella group that oversees all the school's cultural groups, but Lisa didn't want to join that, either. The only club Lisa signed up for, Neely said, was the Gay-Straight Alliance. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is running for Governor of California, is against vouchers.
Can people see why he doesn't get support from a lot of us.
To: Sub-Driver
To Lisa, the logic is simple: If there is a Black Student Union for African Americans, a Latinos Unidos for Latin Americans and an ALOHA Club for Asian Americans, then why can't there be a Caucasian Club at her school? That is a good question. With PC so deeply ingrained in our society, I wonder if it will fly? I hope it does.

"It's not culturally sensitive to the community we're addressing, especially in light of what had happened there before," said Darnell Turner, the chapter's vice president. "The club, in name, seems like a backdoor approach to separation. From a historical perspective, this will bring up fears." Uhhhh.....The National Association Of Colored People is worried about separation???? This is too weird.
