Tom McClintock - The conscience of a conservative?

In a conversation with US Congressman Dan Burton, Tom McClintock said the following: he (McClintock) didn't mind it if Democrats win the gubernatorial race because it could improve his own chances in 2006. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Burton, one of the more conservative members of Congress, also said McClintock had seemed to suggest that it would be acceptable for a Democrat to hold the governor's office, because he might create a clamor for a Republican in 2006.". So that's what this is really about. If McClintock can't win, he can at least prevent the Republicans from winning so he has a better shot in 2006. Aren't we glad he's playing for our team?

McClintock is now collaborating with Cruz Bustamante to boycott the California Broadcasters Association's debate on the 24th as a means of showing up Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bustamante led the boycott charge on October 17th with McClintock soon followed his lead. When you see a Republican siding with a Democrat against a fellow Republican, you know something is wrong with the picture. Don't adjust your set- this is Tom McClintock, the self-styled conscience of conservatism.

By the way he has conducted his campaign, McClintock has divided the party, divided conservatives from each other — thus dividing a minority into increasingly tinier minorities — and, as far as I am concerned, ended his career. I cannot imagine supporting an unrepentant Tom McClintock in any primary ever again. And I very much doubt I am alone in that.

Excellent? I suppose, but only in the sense of avoiding the #1 issue of the recall, which just so happens to be the #1 issue of McClintock's campaign... restoring financial health to California's economy and California state government.

But I suppose it's too late to bring the dialogue back to that side issue, huh... :-(

Not only has McClintock set himself to be the spoiler for a very winnable Republican election, but he has made himself and the party a laughing stock.

He is running against a fellow republican and teaming up with the democrats.

He states that having the Democrats win would set himself up for a win in 2006, which is completely dillusional.

He spits in the face of every republican in the state of California, and President Bush himself. If the Republicans can take the governorship of California, it can very well give Bush the state in 2004.

But of course this is all about Tom. Never has this NOT been about Tom. I hold the man in complete contempt.

The CBA has assured the McClintock Campaign that there will be a one minute limit to the scripted answers, followed by an "interactive crossfire" type of exchange. This will ensure sufficient time for the candidates to question each other and have a free spirited debate.

And that is the way it was supposed to work before Bozo McClinton got together with his lover Bustamante and started screaming about the debate being scripted and threatening to not take part. Does Tom not read the rules like with the Voter Guide application or does he like to play fast and loose with the truth, or is he just that stupid?

Its pretty pathethic when the only way your candidate can get press coverage is to join with his Dem Lover and attack another Republican. Frankly, I think most Republicans think its about time for crosseyed Tom to figure out he is supposed to beat the Democrats and start campaigning against Bustamante and for the recall, two things he has been neglecting since he entered the race.

As a former Californian I no longer have a vested interest in California so I am starting to feel that it may be a good thing to let California's socialism make California fai. This could be a practical example for why we should stop the USA's growing socialism. Anacdotal proof why we shoud change our ways.

Senator Tom McClintock is delighted that negotiations on site in Sacramento this morning resulted in the needed commitment by the California Broadcasters Association to ensure a free flowing and open debate on September 24th, 2003 on the campus of California State University, Sacramento.

Earth to Planet McClinton. That is the way the debate was supposed to work. Tom didnt bring about any change. The debate was set up as a non structured event in which the candidates sit across the table and discuss the issues, asking each other questions, etc. The scripted part was only one minute, then the free for all which could conceivably last the full debate.

Either your competent candidate didnt know this, like he didnt know how to fill out his Voter Guide information, or he's in cahoots with the Dems to make sure the Recall doesnt pass, or he's just plain stupid. Take your pick.

I'm a California Republican and I'm voting for Arnold.

However, I don't see any reason why McClintock should quit the race. He's earned the right to speak out on the issues and on his opponents, and I get tired of hearing folks say he should STFU.

California Republicans are smart enough to make the right choice and come election day many of McClintock's supporters will hold their noses and punch Arnold's chad. If Arnold get's enough votes he's governor. If not we get tit boy. Isn't that fair enough?

You could try to actually address the issue at hand: That a group which has supported the California Republican Party, which regularly attends and participates in its conventions, which is in turn supported by the CRP, which has has had its political goals overwhelmingingly endorsed by the vote of the CRP membership and which has had the CRP step forward as one of the top financial supporters of its Prop 1A tribal gaming initiative, made an independent expenditure on behalf of a conservative CRP member, rather than a leftist RINO opportunist.
