I know there have been many tributes to Johnny on FR, but this one from Time Magazine is the best I've seen. It is their cover story. Seldom agree with their politics but their people can really write - always could.

Cash was then told he could have surgery, which might end his singing career, or take pain-killers, which could retrigger his drug addition. He chose instead to live with the painall of it. Not many could do that. He had guts.
