Although Al Franken was, at the time, a fellow at the Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard, his unauthorized use of the Harvard letterhead for that purpose did, regretably, embarass Harvard. As in most satire, the purpose is to reveal something absurd about the subject through wit. Considering that Franken was asking Mr. Ashcroft to share his own abstinence story, you would expect a quickly forthcoming response. Which never came. Sometimes I think the conservative world would be enriched if you ever appreciated irony.

Nice generalization. Glad to say it doesn't apply to me.

A quick glance at my FR posts should prove that.

I certainly appreciate irony. It's very likely that I appreciate it a little more than most people..(perhaps a little too much :-).

Prankin' Al Franken's

nasty behavior is a good reminder of why this former Illinois liberal, who voted for Carter and McGovern and campaigned for Eugene McCarthy, got out of the Democratic party.

The days of admirable Democrats, like Adlai Stevenson, are distant history.

Why should I expect Ashcroft to reply to personal questions about his sexual life, especially when the questions are posed by an aggressively nasty "humorist" who has bad taste?

As Attorney General of the US, Ashcroft must be well aware that one's sex life is a private matter, as long as one does not break any laws.

You do realize that that statement makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, don't you?

Al Franken fights a battle of wits unarmed.

Flipped Lou Dobbs who had him the other night... pulling toenails out is less painful than watching him try to defend AlGore...

I lasted about 30 seconds, then had to switch. Too painful.
It felt like I was rubbernecking at a bad accident scene.
