Reading about John Ritter dying was sad; reading about Johnny Cash dying is way sad. Johnny has been a favorite of mine since 1956 (I was 15 then).
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine,
I walk the line
I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine,
I walk the line
As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine,
I walk the line
You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine,
I walk the line
(Recorded 4/2/56 - Number 26 - Top 100 Country Hits of All-Time)
God bless, you Johnny.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken Lyrics:
I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All of my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
Johnny rejoins June who was at "a better home a-waiting."

we will miss the man in black he was an american icon. He loved his country and gave us many memorable songs.
To: John W
well I woke up Sunday morning
with no way to hold my head
that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't
bad so I had one more for dessert
then I fumbled through my closet
for my clothes
and found my cleanest dirty shirt
and I shaved my face
and combed my hair
and stumbled down the stairs
to meet the day
i'd smoked my brain the night before
with cigarettes and songs
that I've been pickin'
but I lit my first and watched a small kid
cussin' at a can that he was kickin
then I crossed the empty street and
caught the sunday smell
of someone fryin chicken
and it took me back to something
that I'd lost somehow
somewhere along the way
on the sunday morning sidewalk
wishing lord that I was stoned
cause there's something in a sunday
that makes a body feel alone
and there's nothing short of dying
half as lonesome as the sound
on the sleeping city sidewalk
sunday morning coming down
in the park I saw a daddy
with a laughing little girl
he was swingin
and I stopped beside the Sunday school
and listened to the song
that they were singing
then I headed back for home
and somewhere far away
a lonely bell was ringing
and it echoed thru the canyon like
the disappearing dreams of yesterday
on the sunday morning sidewalk
wishing lord that I was stoned
cause therels something in a sunday
that makes a body feel alone
and there's nothing short of dying
half as lonesome as the sound
on the sleeping city sidewalk
sunday morning coming down

Around 1972, my wife and I saw Johnny Cash in Philly. At the start of the show he yelled up to the people way upstairs can you hear me up there? They yelled No!! He said Well, if you paid more money, you could have sat down here!

"June and I met backstage at the Grand Ole Opry in 1956. She was already a veteran in Country Music, having performed with her family since she was six years old.
She has worked with me since the early sixties, and in her I always found a friend.
Now the sharing of our Christian faith strengthened the bond between us. She is my wife, lover, friend, and my biggest critic.
Ten years ago she told me one morning, "Last night I dreamed I saw you standing on a mountain top in Israel and you were talking about Jesus." Her dream became my vision, and five years later we began production of our film Gospel Road. It opens with me standing on a mountaintop in Israel, and Im talking about Jesus."
"We work things out; heart to heart, soul to soul. Were in Love."
-- Johnny Cash, 1983
"What June did for me was post signs along the way, lift me when I was weak, encourage me when I was discouraged, and love me when I was alone and felt unlovable. She is the greatest woman I have ever known. Nobody else, except my mother, comes close. "
-- Johnny Cash, from Cash the Autobiography, 1997

Even in those young pics, he never really looked happy, always troubled. Guess he had lots of demons to deal with, drugs and alcohol and who knows what. I hope it's better now.

In the late 60's, Johnny came to Berryville, VA, to perform at Watermelon Park. The place was a haven for country and western musicians, (as well as being the first place that a Bluegrass festival was held by Bill Monrow) and Dolly, Porter, etc, were frequently there...
(They stopped the concerts in 1973, when a guy got shot at the park. The Pagans had come to hear some music and party!)
On this occasion, the band, and Johnny, all went to Winchester to see a show on Friday, got drunk, and thrown into the county jail...
John Miller, (Sr.) went to the Sheriff, paid a "fine" and got them released for their date at the park on saturday... When they arrived, IN LEG IRONS, the deputy took off the leggings, allowed him to perform, then reinstalled them, and took them all back to jail until the judge could hear the case on Monday...Guilty! for public drunkenness, and fighting!
The man lived a good life, did what he wanted to do, and loved people, and was LOVED BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE... what more could you ask for?
I HOPE GOD ENJOYS THE NEW BAND!

I pause a moment to honor the life of a great entertainer who has given me so much enjoyment over the years. He was a great man, a great singer, and a great songwriter. I think it fitting that he passed away after recently been nominated for an MTV music award for his music and appeal touched everyone who heard him, young and old alike.
He will truly be missed.

Watching The Today Show's report on Johnny Cash's death. Who do they have on as their guest to comment? Some guy named Anthony Decurtis, a foppish, effeminate reporter from Rolling Stone magazine, dressed in a NYC suit and tie.
I realize that Johnny died overnight and it might have been difficult to arrange the perfect guest, but couldn't they have done a hook-up with someone from Nashville, etc?

Its a sad loss for all Americans.
If Johnny Cash was about anything it was the redemptive love found in Jesus.
Lord, welcome him home.
