When he won his Grammy for Best Country Album for Unchained back in 1996 or so, there was no mistaking the fact that Cash did not care for the weasels who have taken over the Nashville scene...

RIP Johnny! I expect there is quite a gospel session going on at the gates! :0)

I knew him...not well but more than most. He'd come to the Shennandoah South theater in Branson when I worked there. Sometimes he'd perform, but mostly just hang. They spent their time traveling around the country visiting their kids when they didn't have a gig. Roseann Cash had a specialty Star clothing store there, so we'd see them about once every couple of months. Good people, down to earth people, unlike many of the Stars that performed there.

I'm happy for him. He's with his wife again...he missed her so. And Lou, if you're onboard, condolences.

Thanks for your link to the video "Hurt" you posted; much appreciated. Prior links I tried played the song, but didn't show the photos. I'd been wanting to see it for awhile. Thanks again!

I have to thank someone else on another thread for first linking it.

How much June Carter looked like her mother there.

AP and Johnny together. That's gotta be something.

That was a very beautiful remembrance; thanks for sharing your writing. Even though I never saw him in person, like you did, he touched me too from the first time I heard him, many years ago.

I rate Hank as greater too.

Jimmie Rodgers more so.

AP and Maybelle greater as well.

Hank's gospel songs were good.

Ride on, Johnny.

I didn't hear about it 'til my boss came in this morning dressed in black from head to toe...

Buenos Noches, Senorita DelSoul...have you seen LonePalm's tribute to the Man in Black?!

"Ghost Writers in Disguise"
Ghost Riders in the Sky: Words and Music by Stan Jones circa 1949
Parody by LonePalm

An old tired hack went writing out one dark and stormy night
Upon the web he rested as he cruised another site.
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed Dems he saw
A 'plowin' through their ragged lies and up a logic flaw.

Yi-pi-yi-ay, Yi-pi-yi-o
Ghost writers in disguise.

Their friends were still on fire and their whines began to peal.
Their scorn wuz black and swiny and their hot breath made you reel.
A bolt of fear went through him as they blundered through their lies
For he saw the writers comin' hard and he heard their mournful cries

Yi-pi-yi-ay, Yi-pi-yi-o
Ghost writers in disguise.

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, and arm pits soaked with sweat
They're writin' hard to reach that herd but they ain't got them yet
They've got to write forever crap that no one else will buy
On PCs snortin' fire, as they write on, hear their cry

Yi-pi-yi-ay, Yi-pi-yi-o
Ghost writers in disguise.

As the writers moped on by him, he heard one call his name
"If you want to save your soul from hell a' writin' to your shame."
"Then writer change your ways today or with us you will write"
"A-tryin' to reach the Demo herd, ‘They’ll never get it right.’"

Yi-pi-yi-ay, Yi-pi-yi-o
Ghost writers in disguise.
Ghost writers in disguise.

Rest In Peace Johnny Cash. Because you’re fine, I wrote the line.

This one is for Johnny Cash and is a take off on my favorite Cash song. The video of this one will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

My parents had the Folsom Prison album on 8-track tape soon after it came out. As just a little sprout (age 5 or 6), I used to listen to it over and over. I loved that album.

Now I'm getting close to forty, and I now have Folsom Prison on CD. There ain't much music I still listen too from that era, but Johnny Cash is timeless. As far as I'm concerned, it is one of the top FIVE best live albums ever recorded. (And, for me personally, it's #1.)

I'm sure gonna miss that Man in Black. May he greatly enjoy his heavenly reward.

I hear the train a comin'; it's rollin' 'round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when.
I'm stuck at Folsom Prison and time keeps draggin' on.
But that train keeps rollin' on down to San Antone.

When I was just a baby, my mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy; don't ever play with guns."
But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.
When I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry.

I bet there's rich folk eatin' in a fancy dining car.
They're prob'ly drinkin' coffee and smokin' big cigars,
But I know I had it comin', I know I can't be free,
But those people keep a movin', and that's what tortures me.

Well, if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine,
I bet I'd move on over a little farther down the line,
Far from Folsom Prison, that's where I want to stay,
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away.
