I heard McQuixote on Hannity's radio show and, while I agree with him on many issues, he really turned me off. He sounded like every other politician and couldn't bring himself to remember Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment: Thou Shalt Not Speak Ill of Another Republican.

I did not like what I heard. Too arrogant, to much Me Me Me. All he's going to do is ensure MeChA MeChA MeCha.

I'm a native Californian. As much as I agree with the conservative positions, his tone is just unelectable in California. Folks, the moderates will never vote for him, and you just can't win in California without the independent 'moderate' vote. That's been true since the early 1960's and it's what killed Knowland in '58 against Pat Brown, Nixon in '62 against Pat Brown, worked for Reagan in '66 and '70, for Junior Brown in '74 and '78, etc., on through Davis last year.

Doesn't anyone on FR have any perspective on California politics over the past 50 years? The lack of understanding is amazing. Conservatives in California have been shooting themselves in their feet for decades. And Tom McQuixote is just the latest one. Sad.

Have been wondering that same thing myself! Make no sense to me at all! It is like they don't want to see the truth!

Yes. I'm from San Diego and I'm not represented a Governor, two Senators, Federal or State Representatives, nor a city counselman. Sure, you bet I'm going to hold out for Conservative principles (NOT).

I don't see McClintock getting more votes than Arnold, if either of the other drops out. Arnold is getting new votes that would not exist, if he were not running and true conservatives are not so dumb that they wouldn't know what their only choices are.

I also don't see any political future for McClintock in the Republican Party if he rides this out to the end. The only good thing about his staying in a little longer is the Dems won't have time to change their campaign to save Davis, once the polls favor Arnold in a two man race.

My question is: where is the White House in this?

Why doesn't Bush have his people in CA making McClintock an offer he can't refuse?

McClintock can't win. Arnold can. Even if Arnold dropped out, his support would NOT go to McClintock. Polls show that. Only Arnold can beat Bustamente.

A governor of your own party is an asset in a Presidential year. Governor Arnold could put California in play for 2004. Governor Bustamante could end up as Hildebeast's running mate.

The Bush team has to know this. Why haven't they made it clear to McClintock that, if he wants a future in politics...get out now.

My reaction exactly. I was thinking that I hadn't heard such a nasty man since Dean was on with Russert.
