I don't see what the problem is. American interests don't coincide with Israeli interests. We want peace (or relative peace) in the Middle East to ensure the oil supply. What Israel wants is and should treated as a secondary consideration. Anyone in the government thinking otherwise should look in the mirror and ask themselves which country they owe their allegiance to.

Of course Israel and America do not have the same interests in every arena of policy. However, in the arena of fighting terrorism, they do.

Even if this is true, and I disagree, the fact remains that Bush and Powell have made contradictory and irreconcilable statements. Who's right?

Israelis don't have to be allowed to be killed so you can get your daily dose of oil and gas. Terrorists only understand firmness and firepower. Same for Islamic nations. You act weak and wimpy with them and they will take advantge of you. And the USA. And Israel.
