**N. KOREA UNVEILS NEW INTERMEDIATE RANGE NUKE MISSILE; CAN HIT U.S. TARGETS (PARADE TODAY)***
Chosun Ilbo, SBS TV, Japanese NNN TV ^ | 9 September 2003 | AmericanInTokyo

Posted on 09/08/2003 2:01:07 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

5:00 p.m. Monday (9/8) Eastern Time

It is now 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2003 in Pyongyang, North Korea. Under rainy skies and with a current temperature of 70 degrees F, 95% humidity, slight breeze, with expected thunderstorms today in Pyongyang. Many FReepers and others are taking close note of today. Sunrise will occur in 12 minutes. And then, within a few hours, something rather noteworthy, historic and perhaps stunning is expected in the capital of the D.P.R.K. (North Korea).

SBS-TV (S. Korea) today has obtained photographs of a new and provocative 15.5 meter-tall Nodong version missile, capable of attacking the United States military forces in Japan, Okinawa and Guam and with a range of over 3000 kilometers, and now, along with others in place at nearly 200 locations in North Korea, many aimed at Japanese cities and American forces in Japan (37,000 personnel).

It is also reported that before the day is out, North Korea may launch a solid rocket in missile testing, to herald it's founding anniversary. The US, Japan and South Korea are watching closely.

Photos (above) are of the No-dong missile before and after being loaded on mobile launcher transport (wheeled vehicle).

It is expected that within a few hours, in the morning hours in Pyongyang, the new No-dong long-range missile will be rolled through Kim Il-Sung square for the first time, at a massive North Korean military parade (the largest in 10 years) on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea.

Delighted dictator Kim Jong-il is expected to salute from the dais.

they are truly expending the ammo that is in their public relations magazine clips these days Kim Jong il was emboldened in the November 02 to February 03 period because he thought we were over-preoccupied with Iraq, then he shut the STFU realllll quick-like, for three months as we decapitated the Iraqi leadership (went underground near Mt. Paektu near the DPRK-China border to his hardened bunker in fact, for 50 days like a rate), now he is emboldened again for the first reason: he sees we are burdened with Iraq and ovestretched. there is clearly a cause and effect to these behaviors, imho

Rumsey was right when he said the anti-American liberals and their press's propaganda are aiding our enemies.

as the thread originator (and I know this might generate a flame or two) but at any any rate, i wish to say respectfully, the 5th-grade jokes about the DPRK missile name (har har har) is about five years old on FR; well, maybe you are new to it, but really, we've heard all the jokes about it and its getting really really old. thanks). :-)

Then again, just remember that some folks (not me) think that 'lil Kim is all hat and No Dong...

(I get what you're saying, and generally agree. But it just sort of popped in there, and when a bad pun gets into my noggin, it's hard to let go of... I won't pun again about the missle nomenclature again, I promise.)

Somehow, the name "No-dong missile" just doesn't sound like a threat...

They named it after Hillary. She's a threat to this country as well. Then again, I cannot confirm nor deny the status of said dong.

Their left wing type economy is so bad over there, they're starving. They're going to hit someone, somewhere, if they don't get their welfare checks. Like the liberals here, they'll break anything to get attention, and threaten even more damage unless they get their cash.

There will not be a SINGLE DEMONSTRATION in the streets by peaceniks, either in Paris, or Bonn, or London, or Amsterdam, or San Francisco, in OUTRAGE to this display of nuclear testing or missile provocation and military threats. Not a SINGLE DEMONSTRATION.

There won't be a single line of dissent or concern on International A.N.S.W.E.R.'s webpage.

No Howard Dean supporter, not a single one of them, getting out of his Miata, will express concern or anger.

That's really tells you something as to the greater question of whether these pacifist groups or ANTI WAR? or ANTI AMERICAN?

Ya know...there was something bugging me about this announcement, and now I know what it is:

The original NoDong is approximately 17m high, 1.3m wide and has a 1300 mile range.

This article describes this new NODONG variant as being 15.5 meters tall, with performance characteristics that are in the TaepoDong II performance range.

The TaePoDong II is approximately 25 meters tall, 1.3 m in diameter, and has a 2500-2800 mile range.

I am betting the missile they are describing is a TPDII, versus a new NODONG variant. If it is a new NODONG variant, they have drastically increased their booster performance.

Just a thought.

One important consideration here... If N.K. has indeed accomplished this, look out for Iran, Syria, the Sudan and Lybia.

Each of these states have been rumored to be Chinese client states. I don't believe for a moment that N.K. did all this work on their own.

Note that they haven't even tested much of this hardware. Was it tested elsewhere?

Nukes, missiles, launchers... none of it has been tested.

North Korea develops the missiles, and then Iran, Pakistan, or others test them.

The SHahab 3 missile in Iran is a NODONG missile, exported by North Korea. Once Iran tests the missile, they ship the test data to North Korea, and they make improvements. Same with Pakistan, and the others.

Thats how they get around the testing problem....or have been for the last 10 years or so.

Why did you stop with your reasoning? You were right on track - the Chinese haven't done testing on this stuff either - WE DID. Thanks Clinton.

He gave our research to the Chinese, who in turn gave it to the DPRK, who then sell it to all of our enemies. That way it will be OUR FAULT when we are attacked by WMD, and The Ankle can go before the Senate and screech about it while she runs for president. Nice.....
