Today I announce an Exploratory Committee to find out what the good folks in Western Carolina think about that.

Is this your version of a listening tour? LOL

I'll be sending ya'll some exploratory money, to be followedd by some more should ya see fit to really run.

Good luck, now, y'hear.

glad to see a FReeper running. I've read and enjoyed your columns. Do you have a page which lists your positions?

Go Billybob! Go for term limits, school vouchers, and a simplified tax system. Press for congresspersons to get only the same perks, pensions, retirements, as their constituents.

Keep kissing the grandchildren, and lots of luck.

My District needs more jobs and better schools. That means applying both book learning and common sense to what the federal government does, and doesn't do, in this District.

This is where the rubber meets the road.

EVERY District "needs more jobs and better schools".

The question which remains unasked and unanwered: "Should we continue to allow Government-Federal, State and Local- to pilfer pennies from "the many" to funnel dollars to the few who claim they have the ONE correct approach among a universe of infinite possibilities?"

I suggest book learning and common sense say "no"

For example, in the one area people have managed to keep Government Intervention more or less at arms length-Religion- there seems to be NO shortage of any kind.

The smallest village, with no stop light and maybe a single paved road, manage to sport at least one, if not two or three churches. Groups of individuals who may be as small in number as fifty manage to find the funds and resources to rent, buy or build a Sanctuary in Storefronts or private land.

I would be delighted to learn why the "Church" model cannot be reintroduced into other areas of life?

The "Little Red Schoolhouse" served this nation well into the 20th Century sustained and supported by the citizens who had a vested interest in the outcome without any government help.

The Civil War was populated by foot soldiers-foot soldiers- who got their book learning parttime in between their crop tending or millwork chores and precious little government bureaucracy.

If you run on the platform of Congressman "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" the voters would be correct to say "Thanks, but no thanks" regardless of your party affliation.

Best regards,

Were I to live in my most favorite state in the Union and, in particular, the 11th District, you can rest assured you would get my vote!

I've been to Western North Carolina once and spent it sightseeing the mountains (went to the highest mountain east of the Mississippi but I forget what it's called), stayed in Asheville and wanted to see the Vanderbilt Mansion (but the cheapskate I went with didn't want to fork over $18.00 to tour it). Also we went to the Smoky Mountains and through Gatlinsburg but didn't see Dolly Parton anywhere. You are right - Western North Carolina is beautiful.

Personally, though, I'm partial to the Outer Banks. Dad used to take the family there for vacation every year when me and Sis were growing up. And I've been there a few times since. That's my favorite place on earth.

Before you get the hankerin to run for Congress, BillyBob, you need to explain your association with the sinister, secret Cogswell Society.
How do we know you won't take our campaign contributions and erect silly looking fountains in every public square from Buncombe to Cherokee?

I went to your website. I was impressed by your introduction both for content and for the reasons you designed its layout. I could vote for a man who believes that there is absolutes to right and wrong, with occasional latitude. I appreciate your crediting others for your blessings. I might even construe this as indirect thanks to God for your beliefs, abilities and successes; some believe that life associations are not always by chance. I can appreciate the belief that the content of your character is more important than the color of your diplomas (not to degrade the goodness of education). The selection of your residence is an indication of a true love of this country, because many in the body politic consider this "flyover" country. When you look at the geo-political map of this country, you can see the most of the liberal extremists (blue) live on the extreme edges, a strange coincidence. Another fun coincidence is your childhood in Baltimore, home of the Star-Spangled Banner. Anyway, I wanted to comment on what I have read of you.
